Just ordered Harland Sharp rockers

Well I finally broke down and ordered the rockers today. I have been reading about them for months but found conflicting threads regarding what gains were recovered.

From what I researched my factory cam has .410 lift on both Intake and exhaust. I figure the 1:7 should get me to .430.

So what should I expect to see with this mod?

closer to .440... some guys have reported modest gains from a 318 stock .432 cam. i wouldnt go about it that way. the HS 1.7s are just a nice easy way to get out another 10hp and alittle noise.
thinner head gaskets will raise the compression ratio just a bit also. 5-10hp..

The Harland Sharp roller rockers are great. I am using them on my 390 in my Dart. I stayed with the 1.6 ratio because of the big ass cam and geometry.

The 1.7's will get you a bit of power because of the lift increase (It will put you at .435 instead of .410). It won't be anything earth shattering, but it will free up some friction HP, along with the valve lift increase.

.442 lift. 8hp gain at the rear wheels on dyno.

I have the 1.7's in a 3.9 V6 and felt better performance across the board. And a more loppy idle to boot!

Ok they are here! I added 16 ounces of Rislone oil supplement to the crankcase. This stuff has zinc in it to help the rockers break in period. Rockers are soaking in oil. I plan on installing them Sunday afternoon.

The truck is now back up and running. First impression is WOW!More details to come.

OK so I went out for a ride. I feel a nice bump in power off the line and exhaust is a little louder now. What a nice bolt on a must do in my opinion.

Next will be a throttle body. I have it narrowed down to Hughes stage 2 or Fast Man any thoughts?

I have heard good things about fastman, but do not have either installed on my truck. more about the roller rockers, how easy were they to install and set, do you just take the old ones off and put these on and tighten, or do you have to tighten and then check valve clearance? i was looking at the 1.7's too.

All you have to do is unbolt the old setup and remove. The new RRs mount directly on the head. What I did as no instructions were provided was to bolt them down hand tight and make sure the pushrod end falls inside the socket on the RR arm.

Next I turn spun my crankshaft two full rotations to ensure I had no jams and to help the pushrods center themselves. My Haynes manual states 200in/pounds which is around 18ft/pounds. So I torgued everything down to 25ft/pounds. 18 just did not feel tight enough especially with how tight the old one were to remove. Perhaps it was locktight.

Honestly is was more trouble removing the valve covers this job is easy. It took me four hours to complete, but I'm a perfectionist and I clean things as I go.


As I said before I'm down to three more mods. 1. throttle body 2. MSD setup and 3. Air Gap Intake. I will not bother with heads or SCT until I need a new engine. Depending on what gas prices do will determine if I stroke or turbo but these are my long term goals (3 years+) My prefrence would be stroke, but turbo if prices get stupid again.

Fast man thottle body mod is good, out of all my mods this one made the most noticable differance, makes the truck feel nice and light.

Hey guys well I changed my mind. I worked my ass off the last two weeks and got 29 hours of overtime. Looks like I will have the $600.00 for the Air Gap intake. I rather get the big $ stuff out of the way. I can always get the throttle body later and it is 1/3 the price.

I paid $287.00 shipped to my door. I got them on Ebay from a store called Shannon engineering.

Oh bye the way I ordered the Hughes Air Gap intake and Big Gulp TB. I CAN'T WAIT till Friday!

That's how it was when I started modding mine. It is addictive for sure.

Yeah, they are ceramic too. I have had no problems so far.

Well I went to the local U pull it and graped a throttle body for $35.00 it has MAP, IAC and TPS. What a deal! I will strip it down and send it to Hughes as my core for the Big Gulp.

I also raided a wiring harness for IAT connector and Pick up connector at the coil. My intensions are to not disturb the harness when I relocate the IAT to the AEM Brute Force air hat. The coil will be for the future MSD ignition system.

I will maintain the originals in the stock locations incase I go back to stock.
