carpet replacement question

checked the web site for stock interiors
they list carpet sets 19446 74-84 D-150 4 speed/manual 19449 85-88 D-150 4 speed/manual 19452 89-93 D-150 4 speed/manual The kit that I need is for a 1983 D-150,,2 door std cab, manual tranny... but am not aware of any major interior or floorpan changes among the years for 74 to 93. Why 3 different kits? On my 83 the carpet just about stopped at the front seat edge, there was a continuation of insulation under the seat,, but nothing on the floor from the back of the seat to the rear wall of the cab. I wonder if the carpet for the later kits, carpets all the back to the rear of the cab? a second question, Stock Interiors also has a 'kick pannel' set,, item 2020 that fits 72 to 93 D-150's,, wonder if that is the area, front of the doors and under the dash? I'll give Stock Interiors a call on monday,, or maybe some has experience with these. thanks |

There are 2 4-spds, the 833 and the 435, shifters come through the floor in different spots.

Can not help on the carpets but the kick panel is the area you are thing of. When sitting in the drivers seat it is direct beside your left foot.

Carpet kits usually account for 4wd shifter levers, if vehicle is equipped with 4wd...

called Stock Interiors and they said...
* their kits are full fire wall to rear wall coverage,, the OE carpet in the 83 D-150 did not cover under or behind the seat. Per Stock Interiors their sets are complete floor pan coverage. ** they say the carpet sets for automatic trannys are different from manual tranny carpet sets because the manuals have a bigger floor hump. Also, to them a 4 speed is a 4 speed, no difference in the carpet set for a 833 or 435. *** to my original question, why are there three different kits for what is basically the same cab,, ( I tried but I could not get them to overlay the patterns...) they say there must be some difference in the floor pan contours. for now I have ordered a set of color samples,, |

It's because of the different size humps, at least for the automatics when they began using the larger overdrive. I used the later (larger hump '91) carpet in my '73 and just added some extra padding to fill it out.
There also might be a difference during the changeover from a floor mounted gas pedal to a suspended pedal. I converted mine to the suspended version, so that wasn't an issue. |

How did you convert it to a suspended pedal? I don't like the floor mounted one anymore.

went with the Stock Interiors kit
shipping-delivery was quick I have this 83 D-150 stripped, so not much in the way for the carpet install.. 1. had already coated the floor with micro spheres,,I had done my own tests, an amazing product 2. Dyna Mat on the floor, again, had done a lot of comparison shopping, good value considering shipping and delivery.. 3. laid a second ( 3rd?) layer of high density foam over the tranny tunnel,, gear noise is huge..you don't know what it is like, till you don't hear it. 4. put a layer of speaker foam on top of the tranny tunnel to make for a great fit. http://www.flickr.com/photos/1371835...7632300273058/ should be nice.
