I used my SC 3865 to go in and change the gear ratio (it said it was a 3.21 but it's a 3.92) and make sure I had the SC shifting option installed. Since then I've had the orange engine shaped icon on my cluster. Any ideas?

That would be your check engine light. See what code(s) you have.

I got a P0406 - EGR. Cleared it and it came back within a few minutes. Is this servicable or do you have to replace it?

In the old days you just sprayed them with carb cleaner until they freed up, I guess I have to get up to speed on these new fangled computer controlled engines ...

you could try cleaning it, but i dont think they are all that expensive i would just change it.

I think it is about a $70 part, might as well change it out so you dont have to do it twice.

Looked it up, $39.99 with a lifetime warranty from AutoZone. Beats cleaning it only to find it didn't fix the problem.

Thanks guys, I haven't seen a CEL since I bought my first one new in Sept '06, I thought it would say "Check Engine" or something, the Owners Manual says it a "Check Gauges" light ...

Check Gauges Light is different.

The word in the manual is "Malfunction Indicator Light" which is typically in the instrument cluster section or ""Understanding Your Instrument Panel".

I've driven it pretty hard for a couple of days now, and magically the light went out. I know the previous owner used it mostly for highway (the cruise buttons are worn), so it was probably driven pretty mildly. I wonder if driving it like I stole it helped ...

depending on which monitor tripped i think the code can go away if you have 3 successful trips/key cycles

How easy was that? I read all kinds of procedures involving removing coolant lines, removinghe alternator, removing the airbox, etc. I didn't do any of that, took 45 minutes tops. I didn't even need to wash my hands afterwards. Would've been quicker but I kept dropping my sockets ....
