Subwoofer Suggestions for 03' QC

Hey guys...

With Christmas coming up I am interested in adding some subwoofers to my 2003 ram 1500 QC. My price range is around $500... may go a little bit higher, but nothing ridiculous.

I have read quite a few threads, but am still not completely clear on exactly what will be best for my needs.

Most people seem to suggest the fox box:

It seems that this would be the best choice for me. My concern is then what subwoofers/amp would work the best. Alpine Type R's seem very popular...

Will I need anything besides the enclosure, subs, and amp? Power Wire and any other wires?

Any suggestion or insight is welcomed!

Joe Fox makes the best bang for the buck. I have had two different styles of his boxes and both have been great. I do want to try his newer ported box but Ive got other projects right now

In my FB I have a pair of Kicker CVR 2ohm DVC subs rated at 400/800 each. Each sub is wired in parallel and then in series to get a 2ohm load on my mono channel amp for 800/1600 watts

What amp would you recommend with those subs?

I run an Audiobahn class D mono amp. You can use anything you want though but have to decide what subs you want first, then match the specs with an amp.

So I am thinking about reducing cost and going with just one sub.

What amp would be my best bet then? I would still get plenty of bass out of this setup, while saving some cash also.

You can buy two NEW Kicker CVRs off ebay and shipped for that price in the link you have.

I have 2 kicker 12s in my single cab and they sound amzing for the price u get them at. It would be a good idea to run a cap if possible. Itll save your battery and give your system more power. My amp is 500 watt rms kicker and power these subs at their peak.

The woofer at Best Buy would be the best option, as they are an authorized Kicker dealer, so you walk in and get problems resolved if any arise, versus sending back to ebay seller.

If you get the CVR 12" there, look at the Kicker DX500.1 they have as well...that'll do it nicely!

The only issue you are going to have from a sub is if you abuse it. I have had those same Kickers off ebay for several years now. No issues. You can buy them with a Square Trade warranty if you want for up to 2 or 3 years. Buying one at 75-80 versus 150+ is a big difference

Problem is, some ebay sellers are here today, gone tomorrow, so you may not get that 2-3 year warranty. Now what is freight to ship that woofer back to them? $20? Now your out of a sub, maybe a week, maybe two. Where at BB you can walk in, and get replacement that second.
All I'm saying is what sounds good from the get go, may cost you more in the long run. Warranty from Ebay sellers ( most ) are not covered by Kicker.

The warranty would be through SquareTrade, not ebay or the seller.

Understand, but that woofer has to be replaced by Kicker, which it warranties an authorized dealer only.Unless Squaretrade has ample inventory of more woofers to replace with.

If they can't fix it they refund you the purchase price.

which is more likely the case. Kicker wont authorize coverage if sold outside the warranty policies.

You should check out Square Trade. They warranty all kinds of electronics such as phones, tablets, iPads and more.

I'm sure they do, and understand how they do it, it's just a warranty/insurance program. You get paid if you hurt it, etc. I was just stating if you think you'd get a warranty from Kicker, it would be null.

The only slamming cvr.s do is in a trash can where they belong. Get a good quality sub and stay away from the "name" brands. Get something like american bass, or sundown, ssa, tc. They can be found cheap and one of them will over power and outlast cvrs any day.

Yet for some reason you don't have any of those you mentioned but rather an Alpine?

Not to mention, unless you are custom building a box, clearance is an issue. Thus, you are limited to what brands will fit. I've had my kickers CVRs for several years. I have two db spl meters and have hit 152 in my truck. There is a video on youtube of it

American Bass, really? Yes, I know BOTH of these companies.....stay away from name brands, if name brands where not there, companies you mention couldnt copy them

And how does a sub 'over power' others?

Yeah, I wasn't going to say anything but I've always considered to be on the same level as Pyramid. It's the stuff you see at flea markets trying to be sold for $50 for 1000 watts
