Sorry if this has been hashed out, searched but didn't find an answer.
Im checking out some good deals on 2012s, and was wondering if there was any reason (other than the 8spd auto not yet available) that would point a guy towards the more expensive 2013? I tow a 6.5 k TT on occasion, and thats about the most abuse it would see. I'm assuming i'll still be doing the 4k rpm up the couple miles of 6% grade that i have to cross for my regular camping outings Any advice would be appreciated. I have a "05 rcsb so i have an idea..

Save some money get a 12 IMO. Yeah the 13s are out but its a mid cycle update just wait until the Gen 5s come out.

I see the 13 as much more then just a midlife refresh. But if you don't want the 8 speed or the air suspension, I don't see the 13s better interior as a big enough motive to upgrade. In which case I would save what I can and get the 12.

As it turns out, they do offer good prices, but not much for trade in, maybe cuz it was a ford?
For me, I think i'll start making payments to myself for a couple years, then re-evaluate, sure I could possibly sell outright, but smartest to hang on to my present rig for the time being and get my moneys worth out of it. If anyone is interested, for comparison price shopping, google up dennis dillon dodge , in nampa idaho . thanks for the input anyway, maybe i'll ask again in a couple years ![]()

I've picked up both types and this is the only problem. When you buy the 2012 versus the 2013 and you drive the '12 off the lot, it's already one year old. When the deal is really good, I could care less but it is something to think about.

You could always put a 3000 Stall Torque Converter and some 4.56 gears in the 12 which will make a huge difference over stock and if you shop around right you will still save 3k still when comparing against a 13.

"hunting" is not a trait that the ZF 8 speed has shown in ANY vehicle it has been used in. (Im not just talking the Charger and 300. Im talking about the Audis, BMWs, Bentleys, Jags, Range Rovers, that it is also used in.)

tranny don't make that much of different in pulling... where does your truck make peak torque at? around 4 grand that is where the problem is. That is why the new ford v 6 makes torque at 2500 rpm much like a diesel truck.

the heck it doesnt. wanna tow with a 2 speed powerglide? dads old 68 impala has one and i cant imagine towing even with 4.56s!!!
