Installed a K&N Cold Air Intake today...

I installed a K&N Aircharger high flow intake kit (part # 63-15610). The install took about 2 hours (taking my time). The fitment was good, and everything bolted up as it should.
There clearly is a noticeable power difference, as well as a noticeable difference in throttle response. Under normal driving conditions, it seems I do not need to push the pedal down as far to get the truck moving from a stop. You can't even tell that it's there. When you step on the throttle, you can feel a power difference, as well as hear the air being sucked into the engine. My truck has 3,332 miles on it, and is averaging 17.0 mpg on the computer display. After my initial 35 mile drive after install (60% city and 40% back roads) , I am averaging 18.7 mpg on the computer display. I am hoping for a increase in mpg, which is what my main reason for purchasing was (besides increased power when needed). If the 1.7 mpg i saw today was any indicator of what I will get, I will be extremely happy. I know it will take more time for the computer to relearn everything, so I will post back with a before and after picture, as well as my findings in fuel economy changes! Overall, so far, so good. I would recommend this mod to others! Disclaimer: I know that I bought a 4x4 Hemi truck. No, I did not buy it solely for its exceptional fuel economy. It is nice, however, to get the most out of every gallon of gas used. ![]()

Nice choice! Where's the pics?
![]() I will say that the intake alone usually will not net any great mpg gains. You'll also probably find your foot in the throttle a little more. I saw the best results when I paired the K&N with the exhaust and catch can.

I have the same intake on my Hemi. I didn't pick up any mpg after the install.
It does pull a little harder, but that's about it.

Waste of money on a stock engine. 99% of others who have done this and posted only notice that its louder. The factory air box it has been posted flows as well as aftermarket on stock engines. I've 40,000 miles on my truck and fuel mileage steadily increased. Mainly after 30,000. I see 19/20 mpg with not much effort and at times 21/22 if I watch my foot. Rural roads and mixed conditions.

The factory airbox is junk. The factory muffler is junk.Replace them both and your mileage and performance will improve.A set of headers help too.I know because I did it.

I can see headers helping and maybe with a CAI and true duals. But MANY have done exhaust and CAI and posted NO GAINS other then noise. MANY. But I guess if I spent ALL that money on a CAI and a cat back I'd say it gave me better mileage and more power. I did exhaust on my truck. NO GAIN. It does sound good.

The 2003 diesels had at very restricted air filter system. Exhaust also. The Hemi in these trucks does not. I also feel that I wasted $300 bucks on the AFE. I got caught up in the 'mod' fever way back when. I wasted money on a Quad Box,Afe7 and exhaust. None improved fuel mpg. It did make it a lot faster but I realized what a waste that was. Might have helped lower EGTs but I didn't pull 14k with it back when. So nothing to compare it to. It pulls 14,000 lbs on a regular basis and tows the same with all that crap as it did stock. Haven't used the Quad box in 7 years or so. Can't remember where I put it even. My diesel only has 48,000 miles. I have been meaning to do oil analysis on it and if silicates are even faintly high I will pull the AFE and go back stock.

The diesel is also a WHOLE different animal than a Gasser. A CAI,exhaust and performance box will add 100 PLUS horsepower easily. Much more bang for your buck then the same items on a gasser. The air box on my 2008 vette is also known for good flow and unless lots of 'other' mods a CAI is wasted money on them also.

The key to better flow in the intake system is to replace the center section; the hat. That's where the restriction is on the incoming air flow. If the only replace the hat and put a good flowing filter like a K&N, you'll get the best bang-for-buck and just as much air as a CAI system. Some of the car guys have said you need the whole CAI with a spacer but even that is hit-n-miss on the cars.
