30,000 Mile Spark Plug Change

I looked around here before posting and still didnt really find a solid answer on which plugs are best for the Ram HEMI. Some say stay OEM, but are the stock plugs copper or platinum, NGK or Champion? I am looking for performance, of course, and if it helps with idle and MPG great. I also know I will be doing the swap myself since the stealership wants my wifes right leg to change 16 plugs out. Thanks in advance for any help!!

Best bet, buy the OEM NGK plugs from mopar-wholesale.com and change them out yourself.

Sunds like your set.
But just for future reference. The best plugs you can buy for the hemi in my opinion are Autolight XP 5325. Ive never really noticed much difference with a plug change, maybe minimal at best. But you will notice a big difference with these plugs, even the idle is smoother, they are expensive but the hemi really shines with this plugs. I wish someone else would try them and confirm what Im saying.

I've used most all brands and can honestly say I never noticed any difference with any of them. Gains if any are a few horses at best, not even noticable. When I worked at a Napa when I was younger, we sold all brands and the ones that came back the least if at all were NGK. Autolites, and champs were the worst I saw. But obviously everyone has different experiences. I am currently running the NGK's in my truck one heat range colder. Idles great, runs hard. I think a possible coil change would be a better upgrade. MSD makes coils for our trucks now and run about $400 for all 8. If you are modding heavy, a good ignition upgrade would benefit you.

Just because someone uses Champion or NGK plugs does not mean they are the best plugs for our trucks. Theres a reason other companies sell modified OEM parts,it usually its Not because there product is worse. I think if you never plan on changing out anything in your truck you might as well keep the stock plugs. If hes looking for a better plug than stock, then he should try the Autolight XP plug,it seems to be a better plug than stock in my opinon. You guys running stock plugs will probably never know, cause you read somewhere or heard from someone else running a stock plug that only a OEM plug will work in our 4G trucks.,so that Must be the best and only plug that will work in our trucks. Im glad this is the Performance section and that people continue to try new products to improve the way our trucks perform.

If he were really serious about performance gains, he would be looking at changing the whole ignition system, not just the plugs. Stock plugs work best with the stock ignition system.

If you do a search for spark plugs in this forum youll find a dozen articles about guys trying different plugs.
Some work some dont. I bought mine based on someones review of the Autolights. Im glad I did Not get caught up in all the bullshit of the stock plugs are the best for the truck. As far as ignition goes, the stock ignition has been proven to work perfectly in both Lx and Ram trucks. Nobody and I mean nobody is up grading there ignition system. Thanks for all your well thought out bullshit.

Just to add some proper info here. The reason why everyone is suggesting the stock plug is because our ignition systems are set up for them. The system is copper core grounded, and alot of times going with a platinum, iridium or something similer results in a misfire or bad performance. Some dont have this issue, but more times than not they do. Will the platinums and what not work, yes, but are they recomended, no. Theres a reason why chrysler says to use the stock plug in there vehicles, and sure aint to just give the customers something to read.
With that said, if u want to chance a misfire or bad performance, try the autolites that were recomended, they may work for u with no problems. You wont know till u try. Best bet would be the stock ngks, or the champion equivelant.

I changed mine out last month and used the OEM Copper plugs, truck starts fine but I do find it has a rough idle while parked at times.
when you go to tackle the back plugs use a knuckle on the ratchet makes a world of difference

I tow up to 12,000 lbs 5 days a week,I race my truck to 6500 RPM at the track. The plugs after about 10,000 miles still work like they did when I installed them. If everyone listened to what Chrysler recommended you use, this would be a pretty boring forum.

Use Champion or NKG. Don't waste your money by buying more expensive plugs that don't improve performance.

NGK part number is LZFR5C–11. Dodge part number is SPLZFR5C11. I'd get them from Mopar-Wholesale.com.
