swap?

may need a rebuild on my trans,am considering a swap to manual trans,I found a 2000 2500 ram with the 5.9 gas(same as mine)has a five speed,are there any issues I should be worried about?computer issues,wiring issues,ect.

No if you get that parts truck its a simple bolt in procedure. You can use the wiring harness and computer as well and it'll be like factory. Search my threads and you'll see a similar swap that I did, but I used an NV3500 and automatic computer/wiring. Still worked fine.

Thanks,I looked at your thread and it was very helpfull-this all started with a check engine light and a p1740 code(I think that was the code)I changed speed sensor,and trans solenoids and code still came back,trans seems to shift fine but now since solenoid change I dont seem to have lockup in od.just weighing my options.thanks again

Either way you won't go wrong doing the swap. An NV4500 from a gas truck would be an awesome setup and very reliable. You'll gain a few MPG's as well.

It technically is but you can easily use the automatic sensor. You need to put 1 or 2 small washers (the bolts are small) to space it back a little and it works fine - I mentioned that in my thread and saved $100 doing this rather than buying a new one.

I have been looking at different trucks to buy for the swap,would a 98 be a bolt in?Is there any sensors,wireing,ect in the trans or truck thats different than a 2001?

I know the coil connector is different on the harness and that there were changes in the trans in 99. Might more that I don't know.

I picked up a 2001 1500 extended cab today,had to drive 3 hours to get it but it was worth it,its not in bad shape,only problem is its a 5.2,so I will need to get a flywheel.So I am closer to the swap,anyone know if the 5.2 computer is the same as the 5.9 computer,would save me from getting a computer flash.I may repair my auto trans down the road and put it back in the donor truck and sell it to get some money back.

a 5.2 pcm will run a 5.9L. i dont believe there ever was a 5.9l manual trans equipped truck. this swap comes and goes and has been done many times. B&G can tune the pcm better and i doubt hemifever is in the dark either. just that you could do alittle better with a tune! automatic to manual drive train do have different pcms. to the best of my knowledge.

ya,thats what I was wondering was if I could take the pcm out of the 5.2 standard truck and put it in my 5.9 when I install the standard,just dont want any check engine lights when I do the swap.I do have a sct tuner from hemifever.Going to be my winter project,need to get a flywheel,clutch kit,ect.is there just 1 flywheel for the 5.9 magnum engine?thanks for the replies.

swap is complete,went very well,now I just have to get the pcm flashed to standard trans or swap in the donor truck pcm,I have 4 codes which are all to do with shift solenoid,trans temp,and governor pressure solenoid,P0753,P0713,0711,and P1763,I assume these are all because the auto is gone.another issue I had was I had to change out plugs for the backup lights,the auto was 3 wire,and the standard is 2 wire,I changed the plug end and used the same 2 wires the standard had and capped the other,well the truck would not turn over,so I grounded the wire and it started,anyone know what the extra wire is for?

WOW! that doesnt seem too difficult! maybe something i'm interested in? in the near future i have to decide- either 3K on a new BUILT auto or swap to a manual trans. hemifever seems to think the manuals put down better.
