As you guys know, 2011 & 2012 Rams have to get a ZF limited slip machined and new bolt holes drilled if they want to put lower then a 4.10 gear in the rear. Also, the fronend on 2012 4x4s went from a 205mm to a 215mm so we are restricted to a 3.92 as the lowest gear that can be installed.

We just dropped off my ZF limited slip and pre 2011 4.56 gears at the machine shop to make it work. Looks like a decent amount of metal needs to be taken off the LDS so the ring gear will fit.

My question is, do you guys think that it would work if I had a 215mm frontend carrier machined to fit with a 205mm ring gear? Seems as though it would be similiar to what we do to make the rear work.

Hey man congrats on getting someone to do that! The LSD does need more cut than an open diff, the metal is different too. Also don't forget to recess the newly drilled bolt holes. If you don't the bolts won't be long enough...

I was actually wondering if you could machine the front carrier. It's the same concept so I wouldn't see it being an issue. I say DO IT

Hey man, I'm gonna make a thread prolly tonite...but....I have a shop that's gonna make me a hidden winch mount for the sport bumpers. The fairlead will come out perfectly thru the black valence. Only catch is you need the 3" body.....

I'd like to see that. Personally, I'd like to have 5.12's in my truck. If they could be turned down ring gear for the front of my truck that would be sweet.

Well, went to the dealer for one of my free oil changes today and this is gonna be tougher then thought. Chrysler doesnt sell the 2012 carrier by itself....you have to buy the whole front diff assembly. Fasthemiram05 and I are doing more research but I really don't want to pay $1,000+ to buy the diff assembly to get the carrier out and modify it.....and of course we arent sure if it will even work. Wonder if a 09-11 front diff assembly would bolt right up? Any input you guys have is greatly appreciated. Chrysler, why why why are you so lame! Just when I start to feel better about the purchase of my 2012, I hit another road block....

Got the rear back a few days ago....pictures attached.

Also, going to a dif shop tomorrow to talk to them about the front. Really wanted to purchase a front carrier from chrysler, have it modded, and then do the install so I would have minimal down time.....but seeing as chrysler doesn't sell the front carrier separate at this time, that isn't gonna happen. I'm going on a short cruise next week so depending on what they say tomorrow, I'll just leave the truck with them, have them pull the carrier out, have it machined, and then have them do the install. Fingers crossed

Well guys, getting this going. I've got everything I need for the rear except the ZF inner axle seals and I just ordered the front 4.56's and master install kit. Going on a cruise Thursday so while I'm gone, Fasthemiram05 is gonna pull the front carrier, have it machined, and then get the front and rear install done. Really hoping that machining the front carrier will work.....

What's your plan on setting the pinion depth when you install a smaller diameter ring gear? Shim it in almost .200"?

I don't think it will be that much different....the rear ZF is bigger then the previous chrysler 9.25 and the rear modded carrier works. We'll know in a few days.....
