Let me start by apologizing first if this has already been covered but Im new to this whole GPS thing in a vehicle and my knowledge is limited. I was wondering if you can add maps to the Garmin GPS Navigation that comes with our trucks (Im thinking forest service roads and things like that for when Im in the back woods hunting). Also- how do we update the maps on the GPS when they need it?

Not sure about additional maps but as far as updating, it's $200 per year if you want to update and then send you a CD.

$200 a year? Wow- that's kind of spendy. Thanks for the answer none the less Badblack. I was hoping to add some forest service maps- just got to find out if there is such a thing and where to get them.

There called Topo Maps

I use them on my handheld Garmin 60CSX that i use for snowmobiling

I just installed the latest WI/MI Topo Maps on my Nuvi 255WT also

You would download Mapsource on your computer to transfer files - Garmins newest version of Mapsource is now called BaseCamp

Now with that said , thats a good question about our trucks - Topo Maps would bee awesome when i am trailering in Northern WI/U.P. MI

So i did a Google search - Found this

Thank you for contacting Garmin International. I can definitely answer your questions. I have not been informed if there are any topo maps being produced for these units. For map updates and software updates you will be able to go to www.garmin.com/chrysler when they become available. At the current time there is not any capabilities with Topo maps on these devices. They have a different internal firmware than regular nuvis so the functionality and compatibility is going to be different. I hope this answers your questions.

One more thing to add

$150 for an update is laughable

You can pretty much buy a brand new Nuvi with Lifetime City Nav Updates (Four times a year) for under $200 - And add as many Topo Maps as you need

For the price of these units one would think we would get at least a years free updates or one free or something? Even with the cost I do enjoy having this in my truck. To me being charged for a software update smells alot like MS pokin around! How damn much would they loose on units that simply need software updates? I would venture the goodwill created would have customers looking for new cars to find ones with the same units.....customer loyality for COMPANY Loyality!

I sent a question to the folks at NAVTEQ since they do the software for the maps that Ddoge uses and this is the response I got. Not all that impressed with the customer service from NAVTEQ.

Thank you for contacting NAVTEQ. Although Dodge uses our map data, we do not provide technical support on their behalf. For technical support please contact your nearest authorized Dodge dealership.

If you need additional assistance, please send us your feedback by replying to this email.
