Talking Bosch Platinum +4 Spark Plugs

Hit 90000 on the D and it was time to do the plugs again. 3rd time since I first got her, and she's been good to me with copper plugs. First time I did them I asked about the Bosch and the guy at Autozone said to go copper, there have been issues with platinum. Since she was under warranty at the time, the risk wasn't worth it so I stuck to the copper.

This time around I decided to ignore that and try the Bosch Platinum +4 in the Hemi and I have to say I am pleasantly surprised. As you already know the Hemi uses 16 plugs. There is some controversy on what the second set does, but the consensus is it's for emissions. That being said, like the smog pumps of the past, anything that doesn't contribute to horse power or torque is a waste so I figured it's not important and went with a standard platinum plug for the secondary one. Did Bosch on all the primaries though, and off the back I noticed the difference both in response, but also gas mileage so far.

I'll report back in a few weeks on how it is going. Thought I'd share this though.

There is a thought! I like your thinking about only doing the 8 working plugs with$$$
I just put 16 Irridiums in....220$ for the plugs alone!

So far so good. Only about a .5 MPG increase, but hope I can get away with not swapping them again for atleast 50K vs. 30K. Still adjusting too. You know how it is, you do something and you want to try it... over and over. Haven't been easy on the pedal. Will see what it brings in a few more weeks.

Things to note, here's the mods in my D. K&N CAI, E-fan, Jet Throttle Body Spacer (ground down to match throttle body), Dan's Bored Throttle Body, Flowmaster catback, Jet 180 Stat, reprogrammed with Hypertech for 93 Octane but run her on 89. No issues with knocking.

The Hemis have better responses to these higher end plugs, but our 4.7s are SUPER picky and is best to use stock Champion coppers.

Alright guys, 4 tanks down and time to report the results. Let me start by saying that the best average gas mileage I've ever gotten in this beast is 14.5MPG on a road trip to Oregon a few years ago. That was about 335 miles on the tank, best it's ever done. It's a HEMI with AWD, 20's, and the towing package so gearing is obviously different.

Since doing the spark plugs I've gotten from 14.4 MPG to 14.86 MPG with city/highway driving. Normally I'm sitting at 13.1 to 13.6 and maximum of about 300 miles on the tank. Now I'm getting more than 320 per tank.

Response has also been a bit better. She is idling atleast 50 RPM less. Response is a little better.

So my take on the Bosch +4 in the HEMI D? Worth it with the current gas prices and the fact I won't be changing my plugs again for atleast 60K vs. 30K. Total cost for plugs was $78.45 for the plugs from Autozone since I did the +4's only in the primaries and standard platinums in the secondaries. Subtract a $1 each from the mail in rebates and it was a good deal.

Another tank down. 328 miles on this one. Average mpg was 15.09 this time. I bet if I laid off the gas it would go higher... what fun would that be though?

Did a run from Everett, WA to Lincoln City, OR this weekend and got 17.2MPG. Made it to 391 miles on the tank and it hadn't hit the red yet. Gotta say I'm happy with the plugs. Performance and MPG improvements, no complaints.

I did the P4's and loved them at first. After about six months, I'm seeing less and less from these plugs. My mileage has dropped to single numbers and I want the Champion plugs back in the truck now.

I have a question if ya don't mind....is a throttle body spacer worth it on a stock TB? And is a bored TB worth it. I have a k&n CAI, bosch +4's which I have had in about 25k miles and have liked and have had no problems with them w/ MSD wires. Thanks guys. SOrry for hijacking.

Don't know about the throttle body spacer, there is some controversy on that. I installed it at the same time I did my CAI so wasn't sure which did what improvement. As far the bored throttle body, it did help a little on the throttle response, but I probably wouldn't do it again. Should of saved my money for headers instead.

Like he said the TB is best when you have the mod's to back it up. i.e. - cams, BV heads, headers, ect. As for the TB spacer, it makes for a great looking paper weight. I would and plan to do the headers and y-pipe next.

Ok...would love to do headers back but prolly not going to. Thanks to $$. Haha. I have read a lot about headers in the past on whether to do long or short.. also if I don't do headers can I do a y pipe back type of exhaust? Also if I do headers is it a DIY project? I'm handy but hate exhaust work.
