power inverter switch

i'm putting an inverter in my truck and want to make it look as stock as possible. i have the plug from a 2011 ram (gunna put it below the passenger side vent where the air bag shut off switch would be on a regular cab), but i was wondering if anyone knows the part # for the switch to turn the inverter on and off. also, does the switch wire directly to the plug, or does it wire up to the computer first? just hoping i can make this work.

There should be an on/off switch on the inverter itself. Your choice, your truck, but I would not hide it away somewhere that it cant dissapate the heat well. They get friggin HOT, when used or left on all the time. Combine that with no airflow or hot airflow & it will have a short life. Mine has 3 fans (2 input & 1 output) & it still gets HOT. I'm just sayin. Also, use bigger wire than you think you need to, that helps keep the wire cooler when use is heavy.

i'm planning on putting the inverter under the passenger seat, just wanna have the convenience (and cool factor, lol) of having the plug and switch in the dash.

Thats cool, whatever works for you. For me, it is more convienient not to have any wires/cords going to dash (would interfere with my manual shift) & be able to move the inverter around as needed. When my kids are in the backseat, I have a smaller 400w inverter for them to charge thier phones & MP3 players/computer. Works great. I use my 2000/4000w inverter for HD jobs that require powertools or charging my camper batteries in campgrounds that do not allow ANY generators at all, even the super quiet Honda's.

I also have a power inverter although mine is only a 200 watt. It does everything I need which is to power my Xbox 360 or laptop or cell chargers. It is under my drivers seat but will be in my custom console soon. With that being said, I will also be putting it on a switch but I have a custom switch panel for it and everything else

Craig will have to post pictures. I don't have them handy while I am here at work.

Craig pretty much mounted his under the driver seat. What he did then was took the cover off and cut the switch out. Wired it up to a switch in the dash. That way he can turn on/off the convertor without having to reach under the seat.

BTW.. my wife is from Nanimo BC and parents live in Kelowona. They will be in Arizona in a few days to spend some time out here in the real weather they say.. haha

No clue how the stock inverter is designed or wired but I wouldn't put that in the truck to begin with. Just take the factory plug and wire it into the whatever OTHER inverter you want. Depending on what style of inverter and size, it will either be a constant on or have a switch. If it's a switch, you can extend the wires to where you want or have a relay trigger them. If it's constant power, set up a relay to turn it on as depending on the wattage, you may not want 10+ amps running through a switching, getting hot, melting and possibly catching fire.

You're not going to be a able to do factory style wiring job so just bypass all the OEM stuff and start from scratch (minus the actual receptacle)

hey mike, that's what i was thinking. i'm hoping to use the factory dodge switch in the dash, just don't have a part #, and i don't know if it's wired through the computer or not. nanaimo's a nice place, but yeah i wouldn't mind some arizona weather right now.
