Over the last 2 weeks or so, ive noticed that when I turn on my air vents (doesnt matter if a/c is on or off; inside or outside air), there is a faint smell of what I would call burning wire, almost as if there was a wire melting through its casing. I have "sniffed" everywhere while the truck is off, and dont detect anything. As soon as I turn the truck vents on, its somewhat strong, then fading completely away within a few mins. Happens all the time. Ive pulled my dash and radio out to see if anything looked fishy back there, but nothing.

What do you guys feel it might be? I dont have any blown fuses, and everything looks tight. Possible the blower motor or something is giving?

That's kinda what I figured. If you don't use your heater much and then all the sudden use it, it can have a similar smell for quite a while even if you don't use it again. Happens ever winter here AZ.

or Heater speed load resistor .
the times I've smelled burning from the vents in an automotive environment was either when the load resistor was about to fail, or when the fan motor brushes were about to fail
(I've experienced both).

I hope that's all it is. Sounds like it makes sense. Is there an easy way to clean out/off the dust/dirt that causes this smell?

Ive got to say, it looks like you were right. It was probably some dust burning on the rarely used heater. It has completely gone away.
