2002-2008 Dodge Ram 1500 Block Heater Install on Hemi engines

This is "how to" will show you how to install a block heater on Rams w/ Hemi's. It should be the same for all trucks 02-08. This is a pretty simple job, takes about 30 mins.

Things you'll need to get started:
block heater kit
3/8 socket wrench
4" extension
15mm socket
15mm wrench
10mm wrench
side cutters

Here is what comes in the kit from the dealer for about 65.00

The element goes into a hole just above the starter on the driver side of the engine.

here is a pic of the starter from under the truck, you can kind of see the hole above the rear of the starter.

1. remove the top starter bolt with the 15mm wrench.
2. loosen the bottom bolt with the socket and extension and slide the starter towards the front of the truck.

You can see the hole easily in this pic.

3.slide the element into the hole, line up the bracket and start the supplied bolt, thighten by hand then with 10mm wrench.

4.attach supplied power cord and route it up to the engine bay. BE SURE TO KEEP THE CORD AWAY FROM ANYTHING HOT OR MOVING!!! use the supplied zipties.
5.reinstall the top starter bolt and tighten the lower.

6.route the line towards the radiator support. i opened the vacuum line brackets on the driver side exhaust manifold and ran the cord through them.

7.continue until you have the plug where you want it to be and zip tie it into place. trim excess from zip ties.
