Ok I have a 76 powerwagon with a factory 440. I did a tune up today... plugs wires cap and rotor. Go to start and now i have a miss. What is the firing order on the big block mopars and can anyone by chance post a pic of the distributor showing where number on is on it. I have found this order 18436572 and that it goes counter clockwise. Is this correct? I have number one starting at the front of the distributor spot to the passenger side of truck if anyone follows what I am saying. I am sure there is a thread bout this somewhere on here but hoping someone can point me that way. Thanks for any help!!

yeah i went off of that pic. according to that I have it wired up with number 1 being the next on in line. runs but like crap. If I wire it like the pic it will not fire. the distributor is tight. I s there a possibility it could have moed internally? thanks for the help.

Huh??
Find top dead center on #1 cylinder.. then make sure the rotor is in line with the #1 position on the rotor..
If that is true.. it didnt move internally..

Are you top dead center on compression stroke? Distributor could be 180 out.

yeah we are going to put a timing light on it. The funny thing is it ran just fine before the tune up. I have the correct firing order down we have tried the old cap and rotor to. pulled all the plugs and checked for dirt on them. all were clean. question how could the distributor be 180 out and run right before then not after the tune up? Not saying anything against your comment RAM3500DUALLY

did you get it running good yet? Align your harmonic dampener on the timing mark, however there is a point when mark is aligned with pointer and it will in effect be at TDC, but piston will be at the intake stroke, you don't want that. You want it to be at TDC when both valves are closed. An easy way to tell is to remove driver side valve cover and when mark is aligned with pointer, check both valves for #1 and make sure they are both closed. Easy enough, right? Once that is established, then take rotor off of dist and see where the rotor is pointing. Then take all wires off of cap, and do one by one starting with putting the #1 in cap where it aligns with rotor when installed. You must be very critical when doing this and not have blurry vision or crossed eyes

Well pulled each wire off one at a time and found the number three cylinder was the only one that didnt change tone. Put different wire on wasnt it and put an old plug in and took care of it. So just one new plug that was bad causes a big headache.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
