Brake warning light

Hi.

Does anyone know why the handbrake light would come on after about 5 or 10 mile drive and stay on continious until I restart the car?

I checked brake fluid and the parking brake is not on! Besides if the park brake is on and I put it in "drive" this light flashes!

Cant find anything about this in the manual.

Out of my 06 manual:

"BRAKE System Warning Light
The red BRAKE warning light will come on when the
ignition key is first turned on, and stay on briefly as a
bulb check. If the bulb does not come on during starting,
have the bulb repaired promptly. If the light stays on, it
may be an indication that the parking brake has not been
released, or there is a low brake fluid level. If the light
remains on when the parking brake has been disengaged,
and the fluid level is at the full mark on the master
cylinder reservoir, it indicates a possible brake hydraulic
system malfunction or a problem with the Brake Booster.

In this case, the light will remain on until the condition
has been corrected. If the problem is related to the brake
Booster the ABS pump will run when applying the brake.

If the parking brake is applied, the light will flash when the
gear position is out of park for automatic transmissions.
If brake failure is indicated, immediate repair is necessary.
Operating the vehicle in this condition is dangerous!"

My light is different though, it actually says "BRAKE" and is not an icon like yours.

Huhh.. seems like this is my problem exceept the light goes out after I reset the ignition key.

The truck has just been through DMV inspection which is pretty thorough in this country and besides only has 9900km on it. Its been doing this since brand new

Hmmm yeah Its not quite that easy Im in Iceland Europe. There is no dealer in the country. I probably had to pay about 3 times more than you guys in the USA pay for your trucks with all the taxes we pay and no warranty.

But its no problem. I love my Durango and Ill figure this problem out in time myself

Im happy for all ideas you guys could give me. The quote above from the 06 manual is not the same as my manual? What I need is info from shop manual if someone has acces to that!?

Hopefully someone here can help then. Maybe it's just a bad sensor.

Hi.

I imported it myself. Bought it from a dealer in Norfolk VA knowing there would be no warranty cover outside US.

Its no biggie. Ill figure it out. I did thoroughly investigate the different ctruck models trouble histories and came to the conclusion I would have a lot less trouble with a Durango without any warranty than with a RangeRover, Porsche Cayenne or other European vehicles I could get with warranty

Besides I have always bought US made. Usually Chevys though but thought I give Mopar a try again

Hey no problem it sounds cool. I have never had the light come on. I wonder if there is a sensor or something. I'm reviewing all the sensors for the electrical system but nothing about the brake system. I'll step on my parking brake when i leave work and see if the light comes on. Anyway I'll look around some more and BRB. Here's a site that details all the mopar parts. Thanks Sir Eagle you rock.

If you bought it in the US and imported it to Iceland...why does it have a Euro speedo gauge?

I was thinking it might be some kind of a programming issue. But get this there really isn't any dealers to do work in his country because he said it's been doing this since it was new.
