Question Crate engine?

He guys I have looked around and have had a hard time finding cheap create engines.Buy cheap I mean my price rang is between $4-5,000. I need a engine thats somewhere between 4-500HP. If you guys know if any websites that would really help.

Side note. How hard would it be to put a chevy engine in my 98 1500 dodge ram? I have found tons of cheap chevy engines.

People have put sbc 350 in the Ram, but it requires a bit of work. Probably won't get you in below your mark unless you do a lot of work yourself.

There are lots of companies out there offering stroker magnum motors. I would go with a high torque stroker in the 402-408 ci range (depends on how your block cleans up). That is doable with your budget, and should net 375-425 hp depending on heads and cam running pump gas.

I have no personal experience with the Hughes/KRC 360/426 stroker, but it is NOT a proven design and it has rod ratios that are too small and everything that would indicate high cylinder wall loads. It may be ok for a race engine, but everyone I talked to recommended against it for daily driver use. Besides, you could build a big block for that kind of money and have all the spots milled for the sensors. Or even go with a 340 replacement block for 416ci. Or an R3 siamese block.

IMO, stick with a 360/408 if you are using a 360 magnum block.

Well I am looking at this engine:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MLL-BPC4081CT/
It seems like it would also be good for a daily driver too. But if i decided to get a stroke kit for a daily drive the 408 seems like it would be better?

Those engines are LA based blocks, not Magnum based blocks. I would call and see if they are available in Magnum. It would save a LOT of hassels.

Stick with a Dodge engine, and fuel injection. Much easier to keep it registered in some states if it has the same make of engine. Since you are in the marines and I know duty stations can change.

You could punch out the stock engine and add some better heads, intake, headers. And get a fair amount of power out of it. Heck even supercharge it and forget about naturally aspirated.

nowadays the technology for turbos has come a long ways, the most power and daily driveability youre going to achieve from forced induction is going to be turbo. if i could afford it id do twin turbo in a heart beat. get some concave pistons to lower the compression a tiny bit, flow your heads and get the biggest headers you can find, set up a really good fuel management system, and pump 18psi into it. that oughta blow yer hair back.

if you cant dodge it, well then its probably going to run into you at some point.

yeah but superchargers blow up faster and for as something a powerful as a V8 I think super is the way to go where if its a 4 banger or a V6 go with turbo.

The biggest difference between a supercharger and a turbocharger is where in the power band you gain the power. Their power bands do over lap a little but generally a engine driven set up will give you power right of idle to mid rpm and the exhaust driven set up will give power from mid rpm and up.

Or, with a turbo, you can just do boosted launches, if your trans is up for it....

Is this charger gonna be for just DD street use, or racing/having fun?
