Question Loose steering/ excessive steering wheel play

Hello All,

I have a question in regards to the steering on my 2005 Ram 2500 4x4 Hemi, 48,000 miles. The steering seems to be getting loose, it takes alot of driver input while at highway speeds to keep it going in a straight line. It seems that I can move the steering wheel alot from side to side and it does not actually steer the truck. Because of this it seems to wander on the highway, and creates driver fatigue on long drives. What could be wrong, what should I check? Do these trucks have any adjustment on the steering box, if so how does one adjust?

Thanks,

Dave

That's pretty low milage for that kind of steering wear.
Do you take it off-roading? Could you have knocked it out of alignment?

I'd suspect a problem with the tires.......any odd wear patterns?
You might also swap tires front-to-back for a cheap test.

The front ends are pretty bad on the 3/4 tons... I have replaced numerous ball joints, drag links, track bars, have it checked by a reputable shop.
