Cylinder Deactivation System

I'm looking at an '09 and I'm currios about the cylinder deactivation system. Has anyone heard of or have experienced any problems with this system?

What's the buzz-- good, bad indifferent??

09 - 1500 CC - TRX4

No Mod's to list, yet. Diablo Trinity on it's way.

I have a 99 and now an 09, the MDS as it is called is almost a seamless transition from 8 cylinders to 4, the Dodge has had this system for a while, and it works great, the mileage ,amn the power is what drew me in, the horsepower is raised to 390 this year, with a few things done to it, go and test drive one you wont believe how it runs, and when it is in 4 cylinder mode,it just purrs along, step on it a little or a lot and it is back to the 8


01- 1500 4x4..all stock for now

I have it on my 08. It has worked flawlessly and I love it. I have never heard of anybody having problems with the system.

You will find that many people on here don't like it because the have changed there exaust. If you go with a loud setup it makes your truck sound kind of dumb, like a Honda or something. That is the only complaint I have seen about it.

Performance Mods: SuperChips FlashPaq, Volant CAI, 12589 Magnaflow Muffler and Y-Pipe.

Mine switches from eight to four cylinders easily, and there's been no engine roughness in the transition. When you plant your foot, the transaction back to eight is seamless.

Yes, the same 4 deactivate. The engineers were questioned about wear and it seems there is no difference.

If you Google about the MDS setup, there is a lot of info out there. Been on the cars from at least 2005, trucks since 2006. Haven't really seen or heard much of anything about people having issues. The main thing is to change your oil at the recommended intervals and to use the proper weight which is 5w-20 since it is all oil activated.

I only notice mine switches because I swapped the exhaust out and I get the 4 cylinder dual exhaust sound. It's smooth though.

I had it in my 08 1500 Ram with the Hemi and it worked great. After I got my exhaust work done I disabled it with the SC 3865 due to the crazy drone that it had. I just traded the 08 in Monday night for a 2010 Ram 1500 CC Sport Hemi and you can't even tell that it's on unless the eco light is on in the dash. I did notice so far that in the 2010 the transition from 4 cyl to 8 cyl is a lot less noticeable than it was in the 08. I can't wait for the 10's to be SC supported!!!!
