On my dad's 1998 Voyager, 3.3L, on the passenger side, you can hear the engine emit a squealing sound. I put my ear as close as possible it sounds like it is coming from a pulley (water pump ?).
Anyone experience anything similiar ?

there's a high picked squealing sound on my van too, but i think mine is coming from the driver's side wheel area. does the caravan make a high pitched noise when the car needs new brakes?

No, only when the engine is running. It is predominantly on the passenger side.
Funny thing is, the squeal has gone since the cooler wet weather has disappeared. I've always thought that when a vehicle needs new brakes, you could hear a loud metal grinding metal sound.

1: The squealing when driving is the brakes. The caravans have a wear indicator that let's you know it's time for brakes. 2: The problem with squealing when running is either an idler pulley, or the belt. Check the belt for cracks. If present, change belt. If it still squeals, change the pulley as well.

We took it in and it was the water pump.
I can't believe, only 82 000 km and the water pump goes south.

Thanks for the part numbers !
We did get it replaced at the dealer, and they were able to get it done quite quickly.

I am getting a squealing sound as well. I've got 213K miles on my 91 and it runs smooth as anything. Original tranny as well! Anyway...The sound is a very high pitch chirp, chirp, chirp that fades out when I put on a little power and comes back when I back off on the gas, while cruising in town 35-45ish Not road speed dependent. In general it is more likely to do it ater 15-20 min of around town driving and much less likely to do it at all when cold.
Sounds like pass side but that is my guess when driving. What do you think? Thanks. Ken

Sounds like a (belt, tensioner, water pump, idler pulley). All, or none, or one?
