Temperature fluctuation

Have noticed over the last few days my temp has been fluctuating a bit. I have an '05 1500 hemi 5.7. Normally the temp stays just below the center line however now it goes just past the center, then back down...it does this the whole time I'm driving. I'm thinking t-stat but was wondering if anyone had another idea....the coolant level is fine btw.
If it is the t-stat, I would like to replace it with a 180deg one. Any concerns or possible problems I might encounter from this? Thanks guys.

I had the same problem. Check the coolant. Both the reservoir and the radiator. Sometime the radiator has a pocket of air in there. Just slowly add coolant and let it "slurp" it down and keep adding until it wont slurp anymore. I know u said u checked the coolant and all is well but i dont know if u checked the radiator.

Kinda sounds like the 'stat is trying to stick open.

Yeah, both of those were my thoughts....if it is the stat going bad, is that a pain to change out? doesn't seem like it would be...

no the t-stat is real easy to change out, just a little messy. i would think its an air pocket in the lines. its the trick for that to put it on an incline and let the engine run with the cap off for a while?

I'm just hoping he doesn't have green intermixed with the red that should be to only stuff used in the hemi's coolant system.

mine starting doing that a while back with the stock stat, so i changed it to a 180 and it still does it, usually the first drive out in the morning after sitting all night. it goes past where it normally sits for a few seconds and then settles

I do not use the green coolant...only the recommended coolant. She has about 71k on her.

I'd keep an eye on the guages. if it desides to get up to the 3/4's mark, more concern is needed. Some have not solved the irratic temps with just a thermo change, as mention, which leads me to either a flow issue, an air bubble or radiator or water pump. A clogged passage around the temp sender, a loose electrical conn or faulty temp sender are all the possabilities.

I'm thinking I might drain and flush and add fresh coolant as well as putting in a 180 and see what happens.
