Adding Factory Remote Start to 2008 Ram

Will adding the factory remote start kit on a 2008 ram enable the factory security system? I know some trucks come stock with security feature( lights flash and horn honks if doors are opened) I was wanting to have remote start and some kind of security system, just wondering if I should go factory or aftermarket. Thanks guys!

If you have a brand new truck go with the dealer. There isn't too many aftermarket starter kits that I trust, plus if it stops working you can't take it anywhere to fix it, but a dealer will always beable to fix it, if it is a new truck. Just my thoughts.

I did the install on my Clifford 50.7x on my 04 and had no issues doing it. It has remote start and I love it. Here recently when it was cold at night I would start it that morning before going to work.

There are some pretty cool advantages to the aftermarket ones that the stock ones just dont have. I like the page capability some offer.

Im not saying there isnt any advantages, but when they break good luck trying to get them fixed by somebody who knows what they are doing. Then if it is installed properly, which more then likely, a first timer would do something wrong. They would automaticly void the warranty and then your SOL. Dealer installed factory unit is the only way for me.

I agree with Wyat I am not one to trust third party ones either. I am considering a remote start but if I do I would definitly go factory myself and get it through the dealer.

I've had at least 8 remote starters installed on my previous vehicles. I've never had a problem with them. That said..... I'm nervous about putting an aftermarket on my new Ram! I'm almost considering not having one installed, because the factory ones SUCK!!! The range alone is a joke!!!! For me almost useless. You would think they could give you a better quality product? I would pay a good buck for a quality factory system.

It's amazing how much further some of the aftermarket remotes go. One night after a softball game and a few beers some of us guys were having a remote distance contest. The factory installed ones didn't come close. If you only need it for short distances though I'm sure they are fine. My old Ram would start well over 1500 feet away.
