transfer case

2000 durango does anyone know if you can swap a part time transfer case
in a full time 4wd vehicle with out any problems. thanks in advance

Yes, it's a direct swap. I have the NV242 if you need if you're interested.

Ok, so to add on to this... I have a 2000 Durango 5.9L with 4wd all the time. Then the 4hi-4Lo. I want to change the transfer case out to have the standard 2wd-4hi-4lo. The one I have in my D now is a NV244, correct? And the one that I would want/need is a NV233? Please correct me if I am wrong. Also, will the 2wd-4hi-4lo transfer case in a 2000 durango 5.2L work on my 5.9L? Is there any major things that I would need to know about before diving into changing the two transfer cases? Any factual information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

You have the NV242, and the one you want is a NV231. The transfer cases you listed would be correct if your Durango was a 2001+.

Yes, a transfer case from a 2000 5.2L Durango would work, but it's highly unlikely that you will find one, as the 5.2L was replaced by the 4.7L in 2000.

No thanks, I am quite happy with the one I have. I could use some lower gears though.

But that will have to wait until I absorb my engine purchase. I have to stop spending money.

I know you changed you out a while ago but what it you issue with it? I would not trade my FT and i have driven it in that mode for 140k+

99 Durango 5.9, FT 4x4, IP stage III w/ K&N air hat, M1, MOPAR PCM, Fastman TB, 1.7 RR, JBA headers, Borla cat back, Martin Saine valve body, Hotchkis swaybars, Blistein shocks, lowered 2" Black Rhino Kenya wheels, 246. 7 RWHP, 319 TQ

I didn't mind the FT on the street, but was pointless for me offroad. It didn't allow me to challenge my truck offroad in 2wd, and that was a big issue for me since I got a locker shortly after the transfer case swap.
