With a little more work, Chrysler can move from having one hell of a sport wagon to selling the best rear-drive American car ever conceived. And one that is priced under $30,000. That would be enough to put a smile on everyone’s face – except maybe for the folks in Bavaria.

Back in 1998, when DaimlerChrysler came into being, the notion of a Chrysler-badged vehicle using much Mercedes content seemed about as likely as Osama Bin Laden showing up for Fashion Week. Cross-pollinating the brands was verboten - the "merger of equals" made all that unnecessary, remember?

SHE: Well, from the passenger's seat, and especially from the rear seats, the perspective is a little different. Those narrow side windows, which taper down dramatically in the rear, made me feel claustrophobic. And even though the materials look and feel rich, the design of the cabin itself is pretty bland. Even the RT, which comes with leather seats and other amenities, didn't really feel like a luxury car. So the Magnum with the Hemi engine may outperform, say, a BMW 5-series or a Mercedes E-class wagon, but you get what you pay for in the German luxury cars, including some very ritzy interiors.
