Lately my oil pressure light will come on when the engine heats up, but only when the engine is at an idle, as the engine gets hotter and hotter the light comes more and more until finally it just stays on. any ideas

FIrst thing what you have. Make model year and such. engine, mileage soforth.

Anyways you have the proper oil level? could be an engine problem or the oil pressure switch, bad oil pump to start with.

Need more deatils about the car first

Is the oil level full? What weight/type of oil do you use? I would suggest a semi/synthetic, high mileage oil for your car. If it were mine, I'd go with the aforementioned oil, 5-30 weight. The thinner oil gets to and from faster, and with the synthetic, high mileage oil, you get even better protection.
IMO, when it comes to oil, & filter, it is no time to me a cheapskate! My vehicals get treated to Mobil One Pure Syn. with the 7,000 mile Fram filters. A 5 quart jug of Mobil One can be had at Wal-Mart for $20.00, & the filter is $9.00. I (We) don't drive in extreme conditions, so I change my oil between 4000-5000 Miles, and believe it or not, it still maintains a brownish color, Not like new, but not dark black. This may help you, and darn sure won't hurt you. You get what you pay for.
