IAC motor?

how far should the pintle of the iac motor retract when tested cold? the book says it should be in more than an inch when installing it . mine's out about 3/4 in and when i turn on the key to check it it doesn't move? thanks Randy

Mine doesn't move when the key is just ON. I can feel it cycling, but it doesn't move until the truck is running.
