Exclamation '99 ram steering box

Ok went out ot carquest and bought a "rebuilt" steering gear box and installed it in the truck. Where the steering shaft and pitman arm go on it is "idiot proofed" you can only put it on one way. (and yes I double checked it) Now if I hold my steering wheel straight I go to the left.. I have to hold the wheel at a 45 degeree angle on order to drive straight.. Is there a adjustment on this? Or did I get a defective gear box.. And no I didn't have this proplem before with the old gear box. I replaced it because there was a ton of slop.
Thanks!!

BTW this is on a '99 Dodge Ram, 2500, 4x4.

The rod that goes from the pitman arm down to the axle has a sleeve adjustment just a few inches from the pitman arm. Loosen the two nuts on the sleeve and turn it. Thats what is used to straighten your wheel.

WHen you put the shaft on the top you probably got it twisted and not put on the same but what ^^^^^^^^ said you can adjust it that way.

elliottecarlose... They Idiot proofed this item... There is no way that you can just make an adjustment of 1 click to the left or the right... It was really easy except for the plow bracket in my way.. It cost me $195.00 rebuilt and lifetime warranty on it. The only thing that sucked was the $250.00 core charge.. They REALLY want it back!!

Are you going to have to replace yours?

You cannot install the pitman arm onto the steering gear any other way than the way it goes on, and on that issue you are correct. However, you could have accidently turned your steering wheel while slightly while the steering gear was off and that would have had an effect on how straight the wheel was even though the pitman arm goes on only one way.

You can easily adjust the drag link to straighten out the steering wheel though without effecting any suspension alignment.

Ok I was just saying I put a new steering shaft on my truck but it was a borgerson and it was not straight after installed pulled it back off and put it on again and was straight. By the way nhlbil I got those parts installed you recomended the steering brace and it tightened things up allot. Found my play was in the stock steering shaft was allot in it but sure the brace will help. Looks cool also.
