1) With the key out of the ignition
2) Disconnect the Negative battery Cable.
3) Put the key in the ignition and turn it as if you where trying to the START it.
4) Release the key and leave it in the “ON” position and let it sit for 10- 15 min
5) Remove key from the ignition.
6) Re-attach the negative battery cable.
7) DO NOT TOUCH THE THROTTLE when starting the truck for the first TWO times!!!
8) Start truck and let idle till it reaches operating temperature.
9) Turn truck off for 5-10 seconds.
10) RE-START the truck but DO NOT TOUCH THE THROTTLE!
11) Let the truck return to normal idle (500-600 RPM’s)
12) Turn truck off, and then start her up and take her for a LIGHT test drive… NO WOT testing yet.
13) After driving around the block letting your computer LEARN the new air flow turn her off one last time…
14) Fire her up and drive her the way you want.

The second way:

1) Pull fuse #19 or #23 or #31 (vehicle year dependent)
2) Close door and buckle seatbelt (technically you don't have to buckle the seatbelt, but it helps to stop all unnecessary chimes)
3) Put key in ignition and turn to "on" and wait until all chimes stop (on...not start!)
4) Turn key to start and hold until you hear 2 chimes (I think it was about 15 seconds or so)
5) Turn key off
6) Re-install fuse
7) You're good to go

I need to add the battery disconnect to the end of the list. You simply remove the NEG battery cable for about five minutes, When you replace the NEG cable and start the truck, you need to leave the throttle pedal along until the computer picks-up the RMP’s up and it settle into a normal RMP level. It’s one of the favorites but I don’t believe it a complete reset of the computer.

So if I were to write-up the battery disconnect description; how long do I need put down for the total time? Is five minutes OK? Or should I leave it off the list?

The fuse is labeled pcm/skim on it I believe. Mine is a 23 as stated above. 06 and up are the 31 I think.

The purpose is to give your pcm the opportunity to reset itself(calculate air-fuel for one)for any new modifications made I.E. exhaust or intake. Also for those of you who are always making mods I would recommend installing a battery cut-off. This will make the process alot easier and it also acts as an ati-theft device if installed correctly.

Should you reset it after you change the fuel from 87 octane to 91?

No, your truck is set-up to run 91 octane and you really shouldn't be running anything else. Matter of fact, running 89 can void your warranty man if you have any left.

Running 87 is not gonna void your warranty. The 5.7L is made to run optimally on 89 octane, but can run on 87 just fine. The other models 3.7, 4.7 and 5.9 all were designed for 87 from what I recall. Since 1fgmtnbkr has a 5.9 he is fine.

Most years have different versions of the pcm. The resetting varies in some of them.

The disc of the battery does not work for most.

The correct fuse trick works for most. I'll put that at the end.

You do not have to reset it unless there is something drastic going on.

You can reset it to temporarily clear a code, things like that.

To reset it for minor changes doesn't do squat and will hurt mileage because the pcm has to learn again to set the proper parameters (adaptives), to make the best mileage and performance.

My 04 hemi manual says a minimum of 87 octane but they recommend 89. And, without any big mods, higher octane will only hurt mileage and performance.

Resetting the pcm and using high octane is just a feel good thing and can actually hurt you.

To reset the pcm in the 04 hemi

Leave battery CONNECTED, DO NOT DISCONNECT IT.

Buckle the driver seat belt to that it won't cause chimes that will be confusing.

Remove the PCM/SKIM fuse from the fuse box. Its marked on the bottom of the fuse box lid.

Insert key and turn all the way to START and hold it there until you hear 2 chimes. The truck will not turn over.

Remove key, unbuckle seatbelt, replace fuse, done.

The first time you go to start it, there may be a delay for cranking for a second or two. This is normal.

Was askin KB if he really thought I needed to tell them that. It was meant to be sarcastic in sayin that they probably already know. You guys all probably know that you can call a dealership, ask a q and get an answer, then call the other dealership accross town and get a totally different answer.
