How hard is it to change U-Joints

hey All... can anyone tell me how hard is it to change out my U-joints? or do i need to take them in (with driveline) and have them pressed out/In...

best 1/4 (5.7 nitrous): 12.10 @ 113
best 1/4 (5.7 na): 12.96 @ 104 (cold day)

they are not that hard to do. of course it helps if you have a lift readily availible to get the driveshaft out. changing the u-joint itself is easy.

...takin out the shaft is the easy part...but how hard is it to remove the u-joints?...aren't they pressed in?

Well the old style u-joints had c-clips that you had to remove and then use a socket and a vise. I even seen some guys use a hammer instead of a vise but I wouldn't recommend it.

...one of the guys told me to take it in to get it pressed out...but the more I look at it it appears that i could prolly use a C-clamp or a vise (with a socket to fit the hole) to do it...

You are correct, I haven't done them on my truck but I've changed the U-Joints on my Jeep several times using a big 'ol C-clamp.

hammer worked fine for me..never thought to use a c-clamp, but its a good idea.

..well, did them yesterday.. I DID have to get them pressed out...they wer in ther like a mutha... able to use a vise to get them in tho...
