How much horsepower does 318, 340 & 360 V8 have?

Hi!

I want to know how much horsepower, and torque does the:

* 1988 318 TBI
* 1988 340 TBI
* 1988 360 TBI

....have?

Is this correct:

* 318 Carb = 130kw
* 318 TBI = 128kw
* 360 Carb = 137kw
* 360 TBI = 153kw

...all Dodge B250/350 Van engines?

5.9L Injected = 190 HP
5.2L Carb = 140 HP
5.9L Carb = 170 HP
5.2L Injected = 180 HP

I couldnt find anything for a 1988 340 engine. Torque specs for 5.2 and 5.9 were between 270 and 325 ft lbs, depending on if they were carbureted or injected.

Pretty scary, my little 3.2L V6 in my Intrepid is 226 HP. Shows the improvements they have made in engine designs over the years.

You won't find any info on a 1988 340 engine because the Chrysler stopped production of the 340 in 1972.

I think the 340 was produced till 1974. In '72 the compression was cut to 8.5 to1 , the forged crank replaced with cast and the camshaft changed.
In general tems the 360 produces more torque at a lower rpm than the 318 due to a longer stroke. The 360 produces a little more horsepower than the 318 due to lagrer displacement.

Was it '74? I knew the compression went down on the 340 in '72 but I couldn't remember if it was the last year of production as well. Maybe it was the 360 that debuted in '72. I had that year stuck in my head.

I think '72 was the first year of the 360 and they had thick-wall blocks thru '74 so the same basic casting with different casting # could accomodate the larger 4.04" 340 bore.
The early 360's ('72-'74) are cold blooded and take longer to warm-up but can take the larger overbore.

'73 was the last year for the 340.
The performance small block after that starting in '74 was the 360.
I almost bought a '73 340 Duster. A friend had a 340 Duster way back when too.

SAE rating for the 340 in '72 and '73 was 240 HP. The '74 360's rating was 245 hp.

340 to 360 transition

It seems were all taking about the 340 now. My info was based on How to rebuild your small block dodge engine or something to that effect and seeing a #matching cuda for sale a few years ago that had 340. What I recall of the book also said '74 was a transition and it's when the High-Perf 360 debuted with 4-bbl, same cam as late 340 and shoot-peened crankshaft.
Also internally '72 was the begining of pressed piston pins and the end of full floating pins.
