I've been looking into regearing my truck to 4.10s, and came across a screaming deal. I wanted to do a set of 4.10s and limited slip, and got quotes of about $700 for parts and labor. While talking with a buddy, he brought up the fact that his dad has an 02 Ram 3500 that was wrecked, and he's parting it out. It's a Dana 80, 4.10 with Trac Lock, and has roughly 120k miles. This is one heavy duty rear end let me tell you, and I know I don't need that much strength. After some quick negotiating, price would be $650. Obviously this would require some grunt work on my part. But for the money, do you think it's worth it? I will not buy the axle to resell it, only to install, so if it turns out to be a no go for my truck, they will keep it, that's just the way I am. Thanks in advance.

Well it sounds like a great price for a dana 80 rear. But the things needed to swap it into a 1/2 ton might add up quick though. Things like the switch to eight lug wheels and new tires on the rear from your 5 lug wheels. The spring pads on the dana 80 being for 2 inch wide springs will be a problem to match up with the 1 1/2 wide springs on the 1/2 trucks. Then there is the brakes as far as what would be need to hook up the lines,cables,etc. You might also need at least a new u joint to match up the existing driveshaft to the new dana 80 pinion. You should also rebuild the trac lock in the dana 80 while you have it out and easy to get at the clutches since they wear out rather quickly and with a lot of miles. And last but not least you will still need to get the front dana 44 swaped to 4:10's so you can still use your 4 wheel drive. I'm sure I have missed a few things still needed to do this swap but it at least gives you a small idea? You might consider looking for a front dana 60 from 3/4 ton 4x4 and switch both at the same time and change the wheels also to 8 lug all around.

UMM, my truck is a 2500, 3/4 ton pickup with eight lugs. I know the Dana 80 came in trucks equipped with CTD's and V10's with the 5 speed, but that's the SRW version. I'm wondering how it would be bolting up the DRW version, if those frames were thinner, spring pad width, and how far the single tires would stick out.

And I have the front Dana 60 out of an 01 with 4.10's.
