Panic button

I have an '06 QC 1500 Hemi (not that it matters, except for the '06 part). The other night I accidentally hit the panic button on the key . It is an appropriately named button, cause I was in a serious panic with my horn blaring and a sick 10 month old asleep inside. I was digging the book out of the glove compartment trying to figure out how to turn it off (couldn't find it), got out to open the hood (was gonna disconnect the battery), went to get a wrench to remove the - cable from the truck, it locked itself. Went inside to get the spare key to open it (baby screaming like a banshee by now), get it open and finally, it shuts off.

Bottom line, LEARN HOW TO SHUT IT OFF before it happens! Turns out, it's on a 3 minute timer, or it can be shut off by pressing the panic button again. After what happened when I pressed it the first time, I damn sure wasn't gonna try it again.

Now before you start thinking "what a dumba$$", I've had several cars with panic buttons on the remote and have never accidentally pushed one. I've also never looked up how to cancel the feature, so I guess it was gonna happen sooner or later.

Just an FYI for those of you that haven't ever paid the feature any mind.

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming ......

Just push the button again. It will turn right off. I use it to find my truck in crowded parking lots all the time.

Just because it's called a panic button. It doesn't mean you should panic.

Yeah, same here. Normally accidentally hit it when carrying stuff so I dont have to put it all down to get the keys out of my pocket but never manage to hit the panic button to turn it off till all the stuff is on the floor ........

I was freaking out, all my neighbors were staring at me, baby crying, wife pissed. Pushing the button again didn't occur to me, but I wouldn't have after what happened the first time.

I understand what it's for, and what other uses it might have, but I'm just warning guys that haven't taken the time to look up how it works (or how to get it to stop working).

The old accidental panic button push has happened to me so many times that I looked into shutting it off. At least for '05s there is no shut off function that I could find. So I did the next best thing, I opened the key FOB and cut the circuitry for that button.

Haven't set off the alarm since.

Panic button fun...when the wife and I go out and she stays in the car while she makes me run the errands I have been known to "accidently" push the little red button while she's inside. THAT really makes her happy!!! lol

I only did it once when my truck was 2 weeks old, I accidently hit the panic button at 12:30 in the morning as some of us were leaving a family function. I initally thought my sister hit my truck. I got in the truck trying every which way to turn the painc alarm off to no avail. meanwhile my parents neighbours were yelling at me to turn it off. I finnaly looked at my keys and decided to hit the panic button to see if it would do anything...lo and behold it shut it off. Man that was embarrassing.

I've been known to hit the panic button when I can get the truck parked out infront of my house on campus. There's a nice big sidewalk that the ladies walk up to the house on, and from the 3rd floor balcony we can spot our targets and get a friendly honk or two in for fun.

For those who somehow hit the button while driving...the feature deactivates above 25mph (or was it 15mph?)... I'd hate to imagine a story where somebody's truck starts to beep and flash while crusing down the highway, and they can't figure out how to turn it off...fortunately most car makers had enough foresight to put that little safety in there, lol...

It's like I always say.... I can go over every detail with you at delivery, you will not remember all of it by the time you get home. So therefore, it's always a good idea to read the manual..... but I repeat myself.... LOL!!!

you have to remember this for the future for other types of products, if a certain device turns something on it usually turns it off too.

Around 5:30am, still dark out last spring. Park in front of my bud's house cause we are getting ready for a fishin trip.

Accidentally hit the panic putton.

Oh yeah, I have big rig trumpet air horns.

All the lights on the street started coming on, darks barking, you get the picture. Couldn't see the buttons because of the dark.

Right after that, I did the scotch tape over the contact too.
