318 cam recommendations

What cam is available for the 5.2 that will make more low rpm torque, and still use the stock PCM & torque converter?

I am looking for a low rpm, high torque (RV style) cam shaft.

Anybody running something like this?

I talked to the people at comp cams, and they recommend a cam with a dur of 206 intake / 212 exhaust, with a lift of 480 intake & exhaust. Price is $325.
Power band is 800 - 5000 rpm.
stock stall speed converter and PCM can be used.
Does that sound like a decent price?

I have heard that Mopar make an R/T cam that can be had on ebay for fairly cheap (less than $200).

comp cams told me the same for my truck with a lift of 480 thats with no lifters and the smallest one they made for my application, at that time. And what they did't tell me the first time is, you'll need to change out your valve springs and they dont even offter them, you'll have to get them from someone else. if your just looking for more low end tq its probly not the cam you want. although it does sound like a good deal to me at the time. also they neglected to tell me that i may or maynot have to "burn" my pcm or buy a new one. i grew board of their misinformation from the different people i would talk to. mopar makes a nice one with not that big of a lift so you dont have to change out the springs ( but i did b/c of the mileage on the truck) and it comes with new lifters. the guys from mopar were super nice, however i didn't pay $200.oo for my cam. i did get it from Moparts connection and got a better price then summit. there's other good cams out there just make sure they are computer compatalbe. good luck

Comp cams hot line

You might call the the comp hot line. they have a computer program that will match a cam to your truck. I built an olds engine for a car and used the cam they recommended for more low end torque with stock converter and rockers and it runs damn good.

I did, see post #2.
They told me that it would get me more low end, so I may give it a try.
I'm not too concerned with the spring situation as new springs will be installed when the heads are re-worked when it's rebuilt anyway.
It'll be a while before the cam is ordered, I may get in touch with Crane and a few others to see what they offer.
I researched the MOPAR R/T cam and it's a high rpm application, definitely not what I want.

thanks, he got me some good information.
Looks like a cam (312/218 .510) , MP springs, and new lifters will run about $600 with shipping...that bumps the overall price of the stroker rebuild to about $3200.
I hope the tranny holds up behind the 390.

Welcome to the world of strokers. That sounds like a better cam, anything under 500lift is a bit anemic IMHO.

Need to be realistic about your budget, I would expect it to go to 4200 or more Best to add what you need while its apart, not later after the motor is back in.
With new cam/lifters and springs you must have new retainers as well. Stock ones are too small for MP 600 lift springs. I would add pushrods also.
Few other things you should consider adding to your list
Roller rockers, water pump, high volume oil pump to keep her cool, 24lb injectors (stock inj will have you running very lean), 255lph intank fuel pump and a flash to control it should be also added.
