So, I finally got around to dragging the truck to the dealership to have the smoke test done. I not only was getting a P0440 error, but started to get a P0456.
The test showed a bad leak detection valve. Rather than getting sc***ed by the dealer, the service advisor took me to my truck (still on the lift), showed me the part and told me how to fix it. They didn't have the part in stock, but a competitor up the road had one and he told me to go there to get it. It was a $25 part! Had I had the dealer do it, it would've run me over $130 with part and labor. I installed it last night after getting home and cleared the codes. I'm still waiting to see if either come back. The good thing is if it does the diag fee I already paid will cover the new one and I won't have to pay a dime! I just wanted to pass this along in case anyone else runs into these codes and has already tried replacing the gas cap. I can get the part number for the valve and post in this thread too if anyone needs it.

How about a pic of the location of the valve also? Both would be great!

I didn't see the replies until now.
I'll take pictures of the location of the valve as well as what the old one looked like and post the part number. There's also a particular way to get the power clip removed from the valve: Where it attaches to the valve, at the top is the power to it. If you look closely, you'll see a red tab at the top. It took me awhile to figure out that you have to move the clip to the left (there's a little tab) in order to remove it. I'll post a step-by-step with pictures in this thread when I've got the pictures.

Ok, here they are. Unfortunately, I probably won't be able to keep these up forever.
Here's where it is. It's facing the driveshaft, and the hose hanging down is connected to it : Here's where it's installed: Take notice of the power connector at the top. You've got to push the red clip to the left to disconnect it. Here's what the old one looks like: To replace: 1. Locate where it is. If you look inside the frame rail under the driver's side door, that's where it is. 2. Disconnect the power from the valve. As stated above, move the red clip to the left to do this. 3. Disconnect the hose from the bottom of the valve. 4. Lift the clip at the bottom of the valve. 5. Turn the valve to the left. There was a green rubber gasket between mine and the canister. The new valve didn't come with one, so I just re-used it. It's that easy. The dealer part number for the valve is 1-04891524AA. I don't know if you can get one after-marked. I paid less than $30 at the dealer.

The original problem was I was getting the MIL, P0440 and P0456.
The smoke test is where they pressurise the fuel system and pipe smoke into it to see where the leak is.

*Sigh*
Apparently I jumped the gun on this. Friggin' truck threw a P0442 on the way home just now. I'm taking it back to the dealer either tomorrow or Friday. I'll post what they find this time.

I took the truck in this afternoon. It turns out the after-market locking gascap was to blame. POS.
I bought a locking cap from the parts dept ($21.60) and was assured that they've NEVER had a leak issue with these.
