What ya got under the hood?(318 or 360 cubic inches)

318 here.... 90,500 miles on it so far

360 with 104,000 still going

360 here...and yea i love it!! although my brother in-law has the 318, its a 2002 and has 320,000 + kms on it!! and it runs and has the pep of a new motor! However on MY truck i need to do the lifters, but not a big deal...(i dont think anyway) I know i wont ever buy anything but a dodge again!!

318 1999 ex.cab 4x4 with 100000 miles still going strong.

aw who am I kidding. Have 318 with 406,000 kms on it, never had a valve cover off yet. Ticks along like an old Timex and just about as exciting, too. Sucks fuel fairly well and wouldnt pull the skin off day-old pudding.
*BUT*
Has been trouble-free with the exception of a pooched 46RE (suprise suprise). Has coped well with the insult of a lightweight plow being hung off the front starting at about 350,000 km. And no, the trans went long before I started the plowing foolery. Has nice cooler now to go with the shiny Mopar reman 46RE.

318 in a QC 1500 4x4 for now. I'm going to start planning a 390 stroker for this winter.

488 under the hood. 191,000 miles and engine is still going strong for being used as a towing vehicle for most of its life

1995 Ram 1500, 318 CID with 75000 miles.

97 Ram 1500 5.9L 360 with 182,000km/113,000M. Leaks no fluids starts fast.

1996 1500 4x4 318 with 296,500. Water pump once and thats all. Wish i had a 360, but she still roasts the 285's so its good for now

I got the 360. I think both are great engines but I like the 360. Its in a 96 ram 1500 sport.

The 97 I just purchsed 3 weeks ago has the 360. I don't think they put the 318 in the 3/4 ton trucks.

I think both are great engines. I just got all of the brake/suspension issues ironed out on my Ram on Monday night and was actually able to take it for a nice drive (the first decent drive since I have owned it, because before it shook/vibrated so hard on the brakes it felt like the front end was going to shake apart!).

I have to say, I was very happy with the performace of the 360. My truck has 147K on the clock and it seemd to pull strong, real strong.

i just bought a 97 SST with a 360 with 195000. with that many miles and leaking valve seals its still pretty fast. ive heard that a SST is quick but it still suprised me.
318s are awesome engines cause of the rod stoke ratio(they hold up to high rpm and abuse), but there is no NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT. my 360 builds power from the moment you hit the pedal. gears have alot ot do with the sst though.

Mine is a 1995 Ram 4x4 with a 318 5 speed. (love the 5 speed)
It's at 420000kms (260000miles) and still running strong and getting 15-16MPG.

Regretable a 318 power and gas mileage wise, though very lucky as all I ever had to repair from my pocket was dual exhaust, fuel pump,thermostat, tires, and 3 oxygen sensors so far, other then a few tuneups, and brakes. At 165,000 on the clock.

97 ram with the 318 has 183,000 motor still runs great. Wish I could say the same thing about the tranny though (rebuilt at 175,000).
