I have the 360. I looked hard and long for an extended cab, long bed, 4x4 truck, and I turned a few down because they had the 318. I didn't know much about the Dodge motors when I was in the market for my truck, but I knew I wanted the bigger cubic inch engine. I ran my neighbor's 84 Dodge with the 318 and wasn't impressed with the power. I've since learned they are a very dependable motor and you can get decent power out of them. I'm just glad I already have the 25 or so extra horses to start with and after a few modifications, I have even more. I'm just glad I'm not running the sluggish 351 Fjord any more.

I have the 318 in my Dakota, but I would have the 360 if it was ever made in a club cab 4x4 (it was never made). I don't think it get's that much worse gas mileage so why not have the bigger engine? I'm impressed with the power of the 5.2 Magnum, especially in a 'compact' truck. Plus, the 318 only has 15 less HP than the 360 (except for the R/T, which has 20 more). I do love the 318.

I've got the best engine ever made THE 318!!!!! May not be the fastest but it will run 4-ever!!!!! I just wanted a red truck and there is not much HP difference in the two engines (spoken like a guy with a 318)

Bah, I've had both. I like the 318 for 'fun' driving. It spins up to more.
The 360 'tops out' at like 4000 RPM and doesn't pull anymore, to 'truck' motorish. If I wanted a truck motor, I'd've bought a diesel! Hahah! 318 reasons NOT to build a 360! Hahaha! (Don't get me wrong, both are GREAT motors, but unless I swap a Hemi, I'm sticking with my 318!)

The 318 in my dad's '86 Ram is pretty old and tired, so I wasn't sure what to expect in my '96 with the same engine, but it's pretty peppy. Especially with the 5-speed NVG-3500 behind it. SB/RC Ram.

I have 360 in my ram. It just turned 163,800 today and still not even a knock or any wierd sound for that matter out of the motor. But, I have also heard stories about 318's with 180,000 plus miles on them with no rebuild, and still running strong.
