The first of a series...
Why does the breather filter (inlet air filter) need to be lubricated?
Isn`t it just cleaning and passing air? So you`re supposed to fill it with oil, right? I put mine in dry.
Thanks. http://s57.photobucket.com/albums/g224/jakelstrip/

I've never lubricated any breather filter. Just install it the way it comes out of the box.

That`s what I thought. But I swear my factory manual says to fill it with oil. Weird.

Are you talking about the breather filter that runs from the valve cover to the filter housing? As far as I know, there is a big circle bulge part that sits atop of the valve cover that has a hose running up to the air filter housing. Maybe this circular bulg part needs the oil?

I usually just clean that part out. I get all kinds of junk in it.

The circular bulge part is the breather filter itself..installs dry, no oil necessary.

Now that is so funny. That part is always full of weird stuff like bug parts, tree leaves, and a film coat of oil.

I got fed up cleaing the part out every time the dog-house would be removed. So, I measured the hole in the air-filter enclosure, went to the local Wal*Mart, found a Fram orange plastic air breather housing with filter and clipped that inside the air-filter enclosure. I had to open the hole side up on the orange Fram part to stick the hose into and use the lock clip to keep it in place.

No more bugs or twig-lets leaves in the bulge part. lol

All I do now is an easy vaccum of the filter every now and then. I've done this to both vans.
