Hi!
I have some questions about my engine. it is a 1988 318 TBI. My questions are: 1. Does this engine have a knocksensor? 2. Is the TBI computer able to adjust the timing by itself? 3. Does the TBI computer adjust the idle by itself or can i adjust it manually? 4. How do i check the timing on my engine? 5. How do i replace the injectors? 6. What cool "features" does my TBI computer have? |

1. No knock sensor
2. Base timing is set manually, but the computer controls advance curve 3. The ICS (Idle Control Solenoid) controls idle speed via the computer 4. Base timing is checked via a timing light. Start engine and let run to operating temperature, then disconnect the temperature sensor. Aim timing light at timing tab on the front of the engine by the crankshaft pulley. Base timing should be + or - two degrees within the timing spec. listed on the emissions label under the hood. 5. Injectors are held in place on top of the throttle body via a holddown clamp and screw. Remove the screw and electrical connector and gently pop the injectors out with a small screwdriver. 6. The very simple SMEC computer does not have any cool features unfortunately.

You could do a megasquirt conversion. Its a DIY system that requires abit of fabrication but it is easier than you think. I have converted two 924's to megasquirt and they ran much better. You can tune your fuel curves and spark via a laptop.
