Tuff Country arms

Before you start flamming..... I'm not looking for the whole Tuff Country kit. I'm only CONSIDERING thier control arms. Do the control arms have the same reputation as the rest of thier kits do? And why does everyone hate Tuff Country on our trucks anyway?

I've never heard anyone have major conplaints about tuffcountry suspensions for our trucks. The only really bad thing about them is the 5" spacer and 5"block. I thought about using there control arms but bought some skyjacker's used for a good price. They would be fine for you. Afew people on PS.COM are using them without issue.

I think it was primarily the Dakota and Durrango crowd that was complaining about the poor quality of the Tuff Country IFS kits.

Yeah, I have heard that. I think the 94-01 ram suspensions are considered pretty good for a daily driven truck.

I have a daily drivien trail rig but would not even consider a 5" spacer. all it is is tire clearance nothing more nothing less. it will not have any better flex than stock at all. so its just for the tires you dont need flex muddin but when it comes to rock crawlin. no flex expect to flop! but thats my .02
other than that for a mall crawler... y not? its cheap and it will look good.

Mi ma sez ifn I kuld uze mi nife i donts need no mor lernin

Maybe you missread, or I mis-spoke somewhere... I'm not looking at the spacers.... 3" is the limit for me on the spacers (I may even wind up putting in 5" coils before too long). What I am looking at is the control arms.

There's not a tremendous amount of flex in our trucks, just by design. That being said, I think poly at both ends of the control arms will suffice for about 90% of what I'm going to be running into on the trails.

On the flip side of that, there's this: I run with Jeeps. They're already smaller, more agile, and more flexible than what I am. I'm not into body damage, so half the trails they go on, I won't even consider. What I don't have in flex, I can usually make up for in sheer power or ground clearance. A little extra flex would be nice, but it's not mandatory.

Here's the latest. Tuff Country arms are $250 + shipping. Here's a few pics of some custom units that a guy I wheel with can custom make me for about $80 each (that's about $320 for the set). With these custom units, the guy can custom cut any design I want to into the control arm.... What'cha think?

The second one is (obviously) my PhotoChop work, but you should get the idea. He also mentioned that he will be using poly at both ends on my arms (these arm's were ment for a Jeep TJ). The Tuff Country units have poly at both ends too.

I'm leaning towards the custom units, even if he doesn't do a flex joint at one end. Powder coat them white, or red, and call it good. Thoughts on the color (truck's white, brake parts are red, black wheels)?

How many miles are on your truck? I'm sure your springs are pretty tired. I know mine are. I've got 114,000(ish). I was under the impression that our springs were 2" taller than the 'stock' rams. But I'm really scratching my head here.... I've got a 3" spacer on top of my springs, plus a 3" body lift - I thought I would have room for 38's.... and my 37's are rubbing.

With all that said, most of the aftermarket company's that make lifts for our trucks say that "trucks with the "Off Road" package will receive approx 1" less lift with the use of this kit." That either means that the company's kits are taller than advertised, or our springs are about 1" +/- over 'stock.'
