There is an extended warranty offered through Chrysler that you can get Lifetime Bumper to Bumper for an extra cost. Deductables offered are $0, $50 and $100
If Dave's mom got that warranty included than she got one hella deal!
its the life time in which the first owner owns the truck, and we had to pay an extra 2,000 for the maxcare plan so that put us at $29,950 out the door. the original price of the maxcare with the $100 deductable is $3,400 but because we were buying at the end of employee priceing they cut us a big deal on it. they said that if some thing does fail at any point on a trip they will pay for the hotel for us to stay in that city or town till it is fixed as well. it is a great warranty. and it as well as the lifetime power train warranty is fully goverment backed so it will be taken care of no matter what happens. i would look into getting it if you dont already have it. the dealer said that you can buy it at any point in the factory 3yr 36,000 mi one but goes up in price the longer you wait to get it.

Interesting. So if you keep the truck for 300,000 miles over 22 years it is still bumper to bumper? I'd say that is a good deal at 2K with no deductible. But at $3,400.00 and $100.00 deductible I am not so sure. Heck, you could put that $3,400.00 in a good account and just keep it for a rainy day or break down. Most big ticket expenditures should be covered by the lifetime drive-train warranty. Engine, trans, axle. I had my '02 model for 7 years and I had basically no repairs that would have been under the above warranty that was over $100.00 anyway. And although I am very hopeful and confidant Chrysler will make it, I'd have a hard time buying a $3,400.00 product from them when it looks like they may belly up.
yea canddmeyer hit the nail on the head on that. the dealer quoted us 2400 for the 7/100,000 but because they hadnt had a sale on a new truck in a while they started being more leanient with the deals. they said that the 0% deductable was an extra $800 on top of the original 3,400 but they supposidly cut all of that because we bought their only big horn. this dealer was weird about that stuff. im just glad that she got it. and yea it was the best deal ive ever seen on a new truck. yea the price we walked out the door with is the same price she paid for her first truck in '98. i would definitly sugest it though cause of how many new electrical components that are on the 09's now it would be well worth the price if a computer or something goes out on it.
jrod, you should go get it or just save your money and buy it befor your factory warranty goes out. and the one thing that i wish came on the truck is the tow hitch and the limmited slip rear axle, and you have 3.92 gears, she has 3.55's
I hadn't heard of a lifetime bumper to bumper... only up to 7 years/100K miles, which is what I got with mine on top of the factory lifetime powertrain.
I got the lifetime bumper to bumper $100 deductable for $2700...kinda sounds like I could have gotten a better deal, but they said they couldn't budge on the price of the warranty. Also included the Garmin nuvi 255w. I bought on March 30th.
thats odd that the dealers arent mentioning it more. and thats realy odd that you got the $100 plan for that price. i think thats when they had more deals going on cause employee priceing just ran out monday.
I'm putting $100 a month into a simple money market account. The first 3 years is bumper to bumper so it won't be needed. As the 4th year rolls around I will have at least $3,600.00 in my account, that is figuring no interest at all. And the power train is still covered so my responsibility will be towards all the little things that can happen. I am a mechanic so many of these things I can do the labor on. The longest I kept a truck was 7 years and it was not driven much, it only had 48K on it when I turned it in last week. The '09 will be a daily driver and at 5 years I figure it will have as much as 70K on the odo. Time to turn it in. I have had little issues with Dodge vehicles and do not expect to spend much of this $3,600.00 I saved in the first 3 years, $6,000.00 if I choose to pay in for the full 5 years. Whatever is left over can go into a down payment along with the trade in on a new truck. In my personal experience I have never got back the value of an extended warranty. Like I said before, on my '02 Ram I only paid for maintenance and I doubt I was out of pocket more than $1,200.00 in other repairs. And this included a new Auburn differential as the stock LSD quit. It was under warranty, but I could not see sticking the same junk back in.
I suggest just for kicks you keep a log of what you spend on a rig. You will need 4 different categories.
1. Cost of the truck which includes the full price of the rig and all the modifications/gizmos we do to them, license fees, and tags.
2. The complete cost of maintenance, oil changes, brakes, wiper blades, tires, yada, yada. (This is handy in the event of a warranty issue as well)
3. The cost of fuel.
4. And your cost for repairs be it 100% out of pocket or the deductible on an extended warranty.
Unless you have some sort of catastrophic failure you will see that the cost of the extended warranty was good money after bad. Ever wonder why the finance person really pushes the extended warranty? Ever wonder why some dealers give you a slightly better deal if you get the extended warranty?
It's like any other insurance, health, homeowners... you hope you don't have to use it but if you do it's there.
Just one or two repairs could easily exceed the price of the warranty. There are many things I would not buy an extended warranty on but a vehicle is not one of them. Parts are outrages and at $90+ an hour for labor, the repair bill adds up to quick. In addition, you get additional benefits like roadside, trip interruption and car rental.
The warranty at the right price are worth it all day long but there are way to many sleazy F&I guys who try to gouge the customer on the price of these plans.
Also, there is no such thing as a bumper to bumper warranty after 12/12.
Maxcare comes close but it's still not bumper to bumper.
I paid $1800 for lifetime Maximum Care with the $100 deductable. When I first heard of it at a Carmax dealer the guy showed it me on the computer.... said it goes up to 9,999,999 miles!! Nice! I just hit 500 miles today so i'm getting closer.
yea my mom is with you guys. she said that this is the last vehicle that she will ever own and besides im gona be gone to college for a while and im the only mechanic in the house so she is gona need that just in case something happens while im gone.
I bought the lifetime bumper to bumper also... Really for the money, I could not go wrong. They "say" if the stereo breaks at 450k, they will replace it. BUT, with the shortage of parts for even the 01, 02 years, who knows what will happen in 10 years when my EGR vavle breaks and they have no replacement for it...
i guess they will have to make you new ones then that or find a wrecked truck and rebuild the parts.
