Losing Oil NO LEAK! 4.7L

Hello,

I have used this forum and others and they are great. I usually search and answer my own questions. This time I have come up empty. I have a 2001 4.7L with 140,000 mi 4x4. Its consuming oil, like 2 quarts a month. I have no leaks, I cleaned the underside and parked it on the side walk nothing. I can't find a visible leak or oil spot. I have seen posts concerning the 5.9l and the plenum gasket but that doesn't apply to the 4.7 right?

Regular oil changes, never had a problem. No smoke, no loss of oil pressure? Last oil changed tried the high miles nothing. Seems to me it eats more oil when the oil gets darker, closer to the oil change. Is this the valves? Any suggestions?

Update

I took your advice and removed the old pcv valve and replaced it with a new one. Honestly, I don't really know the purpose of that thing yet, even though i have researched it. My old pcv valve was full of gunk, oil and was not moving as well as the new one. Obviously its too early to tell whether or not this has anything to do with my disappearing oil but the engine is running way smoother. My father took it for a ride today and asked me what i did cause its running better than before. Go figure a piece of plastic would have that effect.

Thank you.

I replace my PCV valve every 50,000kms or roughly 30K miles. However, I have the 5.9L engine and do tow during the summer months where highway rpm is 2500-3000 on a constant basis. My rule of thumb is to check under the oil cap every so often, even if you don't need to add oil. If there is a yellow tarnish starting to appear then you know the current PCV valve is not doing its job. Not sure if you 4.7 guys have noticed that. I'll also add that I pulled my valve covers last fall and the engine is spotless inside.

There is a tsb that you can do where you get rid of the oil filler neck with the pcv. What you do is put an oil fill neck on there that doesn't have a pcv, take out one of the crankcase breathers and you get a screw in pcv to put in its place. It works pretty good I've had it for about a year now and the engine runs alot better. I like not having to clean out or replace the pcv all the time and I don't have to see that snot stuff in the oil filler neck.

Yeah you don't need to buy all of that crap though just the screw in pcv and the oil filler neck. I tried to get you some pics but it started raining and it still is 6 hours later.

AT the dealer I bought the whole kit for 100 bucks I think but you don't need all of it. I would recommend to try to just get the oil fill and the pcv.
