locate the wires in the PCM connector (refer to the schematic) and back probe for voltage there. if there is proper voltage, trace the wire to find the 1 connector between the junction block and the PCM. see if there is any corrosion in the connector causing a drop in voltage.
If you follow the steps in the trouble shooting chart (the best you can with no scan tool) it will tell you what the MOST LIKELY cause is. good luck and let us know what you find.

Yes as this P0443 is an electrical "open/short". Measure your voltage at the connector leading to the solinoid. It may NOT be the solinoid as it was NOT for my case. I am betting its my PCM which I need to have confirmed as theese suckers are like $700!!!!! My car runs fine but will eventually fail emissions due to the check engine light being on.

A PCM is not 700. (new from the dealer is 500) It should be 300 or less for a used. Used ones show up on ebay. Autozone and Parts America sell remanufactured PCMs. From another post here, here are a couple other sources. http://www.ecmtogo.com/ , www.cherry-auto.com

Problem SOLVED!

I re-seated all my PCM connectors (all 3) and the problem vanished!!!! Lesson learned and you can learn from this as well. Its possible I had developed oxidation or corrosion and when I re-seated the connector it cleaned off the contact. This was not in the procedure but it was my last ditch effort prior to probing the connector voltage and possibly bringing it in to get ripped off by the dealer.

If you have PCM problems try this it might save you some money.

Thanks for all your help and comments guys!

electrical parts cleaner could probably clean those connections too. I am glad to hear your problem went away!

Its back.....sheeeeeeeeet. Wife had the car all day and later on the way home the check engine light went on. I can only assume its the dreaded P0443. It went through about 6 re-starts before it went on.

Looks like I need to find the connector on the PCM and measure its voltage. I am not sure how to do this since I can not unplug the PCM while the engine is on or even with the battery connected as I don't want to blow the PCM.

hummmmmmm

Missing fuse? Did you get the truck like that or did someone blow a fuse and 'borrow' that one?

hi, well everything started when durango wont pass inspection due to emissions, so I took the truck to a well-known mechanic, he passed the truck but returned it to myself with the check engine light on... code p0443. He told me it left inspection with that light "on". we scanned and everything and this guy was tellin me it was a common problem and had to replace the solenoid evap emissions system and stuff.
At 1st I belived this guy but wasnt sure, so I took the truck with me back home and started googling over the internet for possible solutions, until I found some info about a fuse issue throwing this code, then next morning guess what, checked the dash fuses and last fuse, the console/PURGUE was missing. I just replaced it and light was gone.

I bet the guy was trying to rip me off and he took the fuse with him...

I havent returned to this guy.. just missed the situation .. and nvr going back to this mechanic.. :s
