I have a 2014 Ram 1500 with chrome bumpers and I have to get my front replaced do to rust. My truck isn't a year old yet and the front bumper is starting to rust around the 4 holes for the front license plate holder. Me and three other guys I work with all have the same issue on the 2014's All of us opened a case with Chrysler and I'm the only one that is still waiting to get replaced.
Not a surprise. I had a 2005 that Chrysler put a silent recall out on the bumpers due to chrome rust. The only way you got a replacement is if you asked for it at the dealer. The same company that produced those bumpers still produces the bumpers today, and I know that their quality has not improved.
Jimini Cricket !! are those BEACH trucks ?? you know, surf fishing on the edge of the ocean ?
That is absurd. Best of luck in getting it replaced.
my 1997 B3500 van is as solid now as it was when new. Mostly Florida, but not on the beach.
It did spend 3 years in WV here while back on the salted roads in winter.
Never been to the beach before. Just in the cities of Michigan. When I took mine to the body shop the guy said it is a known issue. I'm taking mine in next week to get it fixed. I got my truck in June 2014, my boss got his in July 2014 and the other two guys got there trucks in April 2014.
That east coat cancer. Glad I don't have to deal with that here in Arizona. I had a car in bare metal for over a year and no surface rust! The underside of my truck still looks new a year later. I don't know how you guys deal with that.
I saw a car here the other day with Michigan plates and the plates were rusted!!
I'm from Idaho originally, where we have nasty winters but don't salt the roads. I loved to the Midwest (Iowa) for a few years where they salt the crap out of the roads in the winter.
I can fully understand how late-model vehicles can rust...
I then moved to AZ (Prescott area) for a few years and LOVED the climate. I bought an `85 Jeep Grand Wagoneer project vehicle that was rust free. Put it in the garage and had a panel that needed some dent repair. Sanded it down to bare metal and didn't get to it for a year. No rust. :gr_patrio
Now, I've moved back to my hometown area and bought the new truck. Our biggest damager of vehicles is gravel. They put a ton of it on the roads in the winter so we get a lot of windshield chips and paint damage. I added the flares just for helping to prevent chips on the side of my truck.
I'll be adding a Ranch Hand front bumper as well so I won't have to worry about front bumper rust...
I am looking for the picture. I took a picture of it. I thought, how does a license plate rust!! I am sure the plate was old, I can't recall the car, but I've seen some Nissan Titans and Honda cars with holes in them the size of softballs due to rust. And these are not 10 year old cars!!
I feel a pain in my chest whenever I see early rust...granted the salt used on the roads in the winter (TONS of that around here) is typically going to be the target, but automotive manufacturers just don't chrome plate things like they used to. Chrome plating now seems to be as thin as humanly possible, or really uneven due to an inferior substrate.
Best of luck to you, hope the replacement holds up longer than the original.
My rear painted bumper is rusting around the parking sensors. The paint bubbled up and chipped off and now it's just rust for an inch around. The dealer says the rust needs to be a "perforation" for them to cover via warranty. When you look at the underside of the bumper you realize why. The whole backside of the bumper is rust. It looks like it wasn't even painted.
I got my new bumper put on 6/29/15 and had to take it back to the body shop. They didn't put it on right and when they put it on they scratched my paint and have to paint a part of my truck.
Bumper is finally on right and the paint looks real good.
