How do I remove the steering shaft from a 1992 B250 column ? My Fathers Van (1991) has a column with a stripped sector shaft (and cup) and I would like to swap the steering shaft between the 2 columns (using the 92 shaft in the 91 column, as they look to be same size and length). The one the left is the 91, the right is the 92 (dodge changed quite a few things between the 2,making direct bolt-in not possible)Any help would be appreciated . Thanks...
I have seen this happen before. Is it possible to fit the old steering shaft and cup together, align everything properly and then have them welded ? This kind of makes it permanent, but it would solve the issue with having to swap out the collumns, and would make a safe and solid joint between the two.
Jeff,
It doesn't look to be possible as the cup seems to be a softer metal than would be safe to make a permanent weld to. I have the wheel off of the '92 and see a snap ring above where the bearings are. Would there be anything else to do besides removing the snap ring in order to take out the shaft ? Off topic.... did you used to live in Staten Island NY ? I used to hang out with a guy by your name there.... Just curious...

George, let me do some research and see if I can find an exploded view of your steering collumn. If its like my 93 Ram's steering collumn, that may be all that you need to do.
And unfortunately, I have been stuck in this little hick town in PA all my life, I have never even made it up to that area, but I hope that your friend was a tribute to my good name
