i just bought a 97 SST with a 360 with 195000. with that many miles and leaking valve seals its still pretty fast. ive heard that a SST is quick but it still suprised me.
318s are awesome engines cause of the rod stoke ratio(they hold up to high rpm and abuse), but there is no NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT. my 360 builds power from the moment you hit the pedal. gears have alot ot do with the sst though.

Hey all,

New to the forums & picking up a 99 Ram V-10 4X4 by the end of this week or beginning of next.

Had a 96 Ram 318 & to be completely honest (I mean no offense to the other folks around here) but I hated it, it was slow as all hell & had no power at all! But then again, motor could have been really tired...

1996 ram 1500 4x2

replaced complete drivetrain 1500 miles ago.
with a complete jasper setup
the original setup had 265,545 miles on it
it was tired since i use it for a business i wanted to make sure it would last.
if i would have realized how much money i was going to sink into it when i purchased it a year ago i would have bought new.

$12,000

a new ram 1500 4 door 4wheel drive is going for 14,995 at a local dealer

mine has shown a lot of both.
Only failure to date has been the water pump x 2. Once at 87k the last time was at 118k.

if you're smelling it inside the truck then it's probably the heater core. look on the passenger floor for liquid, and check under the shroud that covers all the climate control stuff there too
