HI all,
I'm shopping around for a good mid-80's Dodge-based camper van. Have come across some interesting specimens but haven't taken the plunge so far. Most have had the venerable 318 (5.2L) engine of which I've heard a lot of good (reliable, durable).
Recently, I came across an 88 model with a low mileage 360 (5.8L) engine. Are there pros and cons associated with the two engines (other than the 4 bbl 360 being harder on gas I expect)? What are some considerations one would use to decide whether to buy a camper van with a 318 or 360? This 88 has dash air so I thought the extra HP of the 360 would be useful to drive the AC while driving down the road? Would the 360 be better able to pull the heavy camper van up a steep hill than the 318? Is either engine more costly to repair, and require repairs more often?
Thanks for your ideas and thoughts,
--Robert
