Idea for the DT site...

I have said in the past if we could merge DT web site with the DT Facebook page, the DT web site would see more traffic. My idea is question that I'm not sure can be done. When someone starts a thread here on DT, can that thread be posted on DT-FB page at the same time? I know they cannot be linked and I have seen on other auto sites where you can post your thread on FB. But I'm not sure if that's on the open FB or on the auto's web sites page. The Buick site was where I saw this first. The thought is that maybe the DT-FB members will login to the DT web site to answer or post to the thread instead of just sitting on the FB page. My fear is that it may pull members from the web site onto FB and they won't come back. So I'm not sure if this is a good idea or can of worms best left unopened.

Yeah, that does pose a tricky circumstance. You have people that may not ever come back to DT and just use the Facebook.. but might gain members on the Facebook site...

But then again, this site is so dead - might just well cut the strings and let Facebook take over.

Would need to investigate some more to see if it's compatible here. Got a link to that Buick site you mentioned?

Hey there,

The v-bulletin version on the Buick site is not the same as ours, so connecting them would prove to be difficult with the software version we are running.
At the moment, implementation of this plugin/addition is not being investigated. To add on to your concern about losing members to Facebook, I would tend to agree. We find that a lot of traffic that once existed on Forums and other information stations on the interstellar highway, has seen a downfall since the birth of Facebook and other social media outlets.

Are there any other potential suggestions/opinions regarding the initial inquiry?

Cheers,

Natalie

I think you're referring to post share to social media platforms right?

I'm not sure if this is possible or if there's a plugin that works on here without affecting other plugins. there's a twitter share option and I think there's one for Google+ but the icon for FB is just a 'like' function.

Hey @dmcelhannon

I think I might have found something that will work - take a look at the "test" Full Light skin (only available to admins). The first post of all threads has a new icon next to Quick Reply. Give it a run and let me know how it goes.

What's the use, DT owners will find another way to screw what little users are still left. Site downgrade, Password changes now incorporating fb into it is a recipe for more disaster.

I've been using the Full Light since the end of last year. The overall look of the "test" version seems pretty much the same but it does seem to load a-little faster. I did notice that the bar that has the Quick Reply stays locked in place as you move down the thread posts but that's on both Full Light versions.

!!! Bite your tongue !!! The Facebook stuff does seem to work well for the Buick site, but again, they're a smaller forum. It would be nice if we could tight-in local Mopar clubs from all over using a FB link. Until jobs and life as whole pulled folks away from DT, the Houston area group was one of the biggest and most active club threads on here. The local South Texas Mopars here in my area is very very active on FB and if there was link here on DT, the draw both ways could be good. Like I said, it's all just fishing for some way to bring in new members and maybe help bring some of the old member back. If it helps, it helps. If not, the site is dying a slow death anyway.

I meant the icons within the post itself. Edit, Quote, MultiQuote and Quick Reply - the new F icon only on the first post of threads - give it a test? Does that do what you'd like it to do?
Other than that, the Full Light and Test Full Light should be identical. I didn't make any other changes.

Does this particular icon also give you no problem?

Hey there,

I was just as confused as you haha.
Had to have Dayle come to my desk to show me.

The icon is located on the first post of the thread.
Can you confirm that you see it? Let us know if this works, and Dayle can push it to the live skin!

Richard.

I checked all seventeen posts and there's no FB icon like the one that's circled in the picture.
