How hard is it to replace hard-to-replace battery clamps?

The car I have in mind is a 1989 Dynasty with a 3.0 liter V6 and low mileage and a negative clamp that still works but is bent and is subject to eventual breakage, and it is time to research a repair solution for it. The clamp has a main negative cable going to the engine block and a smaller negative cable going to the fenderwell, but to complicate matters, the main cable going to the engine block has a smaller negative cable spliced into it which goes who knows where and is routed beside the smaller negative cable going to the fenderwell. Is the solution to go to your dealer and pay a lot of money for an OEM clamp and cables and a lot of labor to install them, or is there a cheaper and easier solution?

There is a much much cheaper solution. Auto parts stores sell universal clamps that you basically splice onto the cable. I would find out what that other wire is going to, if it's not going to anything I would forget it all together.
