I've got a 2004 3500 and tonight my ABS and Brake light came on... and stayed on when I started it. Of course, my warranty just ran out too...36,318 miles. I took it for a test drive and my ABS does not work. The tires just lock right up, but everything else seems to be working fine. I changed the oil two nights ago and inspected the truck. No leaks or any obvious damage to anything I could see. When I start the truck, the brake light and ABS light will flicker for just a second, like they want to go off. The Speedometer is fine.
I'm new to this forum and thought I might ask to see if anyone else has had this problem, and what they did to correct it. I've noticed this problem on other dodge vehicles, but not like mine. Could it be the speed sensor in the rear differential? If so, is there much to replacing it? Dodge is the only one that has it and they want $42 for it.
My other option is to take it to the nearest dealer...45 mins away, and let them look at it. They won't tell me if they are going to charge me, because they said it would be up to corporate to decide if they would cover it. There is a good chance they will. However, it would be worth my time to try the speed sensor on my own. Thoughts?
I'm leaving to go jeeping this weekend and need to get this taken care of ASAP. I've started some searches and I will look for the sensors everyone has mentioned and check the connections. I just don't know if they are the same on mine as the 4x2's or none cummins trucks though.
Thanks in advance for the help. I hope it isn't anything too major. I have to sell my truck soon, so I can afford to build my house
Thanks,
Dave
