I noticed a guy at work who has a 2016 Ram has LED bed lights on the corners the bed by the tailgate. Thought it looked like a good idea. I have a 2015 and when I looked up the lights online I saw they're only for the '16 (or that's all that's listed). My bed has holes that correspond with mounting of the lights (I looked at the installation instructions for the '16). Is there any reason they wouldn't work on a '15?
Nope, should work just fine. I wired up some LED's (non-factory style) to my bed, along with 2 weatherproof aux outlets. You can make just about any lighting work for the bed, so you shouldn't have any issues making the OEM stuff work.
I used a pair of blue LED strips under the bed rails.
Man all those look sweet! Yeah I knew about putting aftermarket in but I was worried the OEMs wouldn't work since according to the instructions the truck needs flashed after install. The OEM lights come on when you open the door or the tailgate so they're integrated into the system. Just wanted to know. Thanks! May just go with aftermarket.
The dealer more than likely won't be able to add an option code that was not an option in the year the vehicle was produced. Also, with the new BUS systems, I would be leery of just splicing into another circuit (although LEDs shouldn't be much of a draw) because if the computer senses a weird voltage draw it will trip a code (more than likely give you a bulb out warning). Mine even had an issue with this after aftermarket mirrors were installed...it kept giving me an error that I had a tail light out every time I hit the brakes with the turn signal on. Dealership finally said it wasn't getting the right current reading from the signal mirrors, so it was throwing a code. Replaced the aftermarket mirrors with factory mirrors and no more warnings! They are making these things almost impossible to change or modify!!!
Yes. Yes, I do. Great instructional videos he used to post. Even if you already knew how to do the mod, they were worth watching for entertainment value alone.
I don't know, it's been a long time since I've seen him around. His user name is still listed active, but his last post was 4/5/14 in a UCA thread. No mention of selling the truck or anything, so I don't know if he still has it or not. Been 2 years since posting though, so I'm assuming he's gone.
